GH2 Why is the hacked GH2 so awesome?

lol. This will surely stir up a yummy debate.

I'm still waiting to see better comparisons between the two cams, but no one is giving the thread the time of day.
 
If the GH2 was so awesome there wouldn't be so many on eBay at the moment. :cheesy:
 
Correct... Image.

Not necessarily the image the camera outputs, but the personal image some folks seek by using a dangerous, upstart, hacked, edgy camera. Hacked GH2 and BMCC are the Linux of the prosumer cinema world.

By supporting higher bitrates in-camera and raising the price, Panasonic made the GH3 all "Window-fied," so it's less cool to those people who care about that sort of thing.

I love the way my hacked GH2 crashes at critical points in filming, see what I did there... I'm happy to be a GH3 upgrader much as I loved the GH2.

Never had that issue...but then I don't cheap out on cards.
 
Never had a crash either. Old slow card once gave me a warning and stopped recording immediately after I started shooting, but that was purely the card at fault.
 
Actually, I take that back. I had Sedna AQ1 crash shooting 60i (was doing it for a slow motion test). That's the only time.
 
Never had a crash either. Just don't use cheap cards or unstable hacks. I'm using Flowmotion V2.02
Also see no need to upgrade. I already have 1080 60p and all the VFR I need on the AF100 and in 24p the GH3 doesn't really offer much over the GH2, besides more moire it seems. Now I look forward to see if there will be a hacked GH3 and what it will be able to do. Then I will turn my eyes again to the GH3. Till then, hacked GH2 all the way.
 
Gh3 has more DR and grades far better. The gh2 is still great but the build of the Gh3 makes the change worth it. The HDMI out is awesome when viewing through a monitor, it just stays on. So on my monitor I can use the built in waveform and scopes for exposure. Can't really do that in the Gh2 very well.

Image detail wise, they are neck and neck. And one does not need a hack...
 
No, it's just what I'm seeing. That and the image grades better. Has WAY more info in the shadows and the highlights handle much better...

Wait till I have mine..... ;-)

Apart from that: What is the problem? If you own a GH2 and it does what it does for you, keep it. Even buy another one. If you think weather sealing, rugged body, better LCD, 50/60 fps, I-frame, avchd & mov, connectivity to pad and another twelve things is a good idea .... and you have the budget .... buy a GH3.

Your Gh2 won't stop working because you buy a GH3. Heck: Even my GH13 still takes pictures and has not disintegrated when I bought a GH2...

Here is a video where some guy testing AF. But look at the side by side and notice the shadows in the clumps of sand and how much more room there is on the Gh3.
And at :14 of the vid, the Gh2 aliases the background MORE than the Gh3 does.
