Why is HMC 150 never mentioned in 'best camcorder' lists

Used an HV20 professionally for 2 years and it is great. Only recently got the 150 and its great too with more options and better low light.

Was put off with the claims the newer cam was better but as you say, only under certain circumstances. Since I output to 720p anyway it doesnt matter to me :)

HV20 is an amazing cam for its price. Actually, for any price. And I've seen some amazing low light shots too! I don't know their settings, and never used the camera. I've only seen footage, but it's all been amazing.

Duke, once again, I hope this isn't getting annoying by now, but I don't know where you're getting your info. The HMC does not scan side to side, and does not exhibit skew. I can't speak for the A1, because I have not used it.

The panny cams natively run their CCDs at 60FPS, and use a global shutter. The entire frame is captured at the exact moment in time. Every pixel = same moment. It's not that it scans in different directions, or just faster, and therefore eliminates skew. Every pixel on those chips are read at the same time every time the chips read a frame.

You are absolutely right. I had forgotten about the global shutter on the Panny, however as a general thing CCD chips do scan one way and CMOS the other. I'll change my post though as I want to be accurate. My bad.

IMHO intellegent discussion is never annoying.

Indeed... it's hard to compare cams of different prices in the same disussion. I have owned the HV20 and it was pretty darn good, except in low light and also, on our RC helicopter... that's why I sold it. Had the worst jello vision possible. I do understand the work arounds with the audio so that's cool. I think shooting split system is the way to go with this and most operations too. I'd rather shoot split system with the 150, but that does require additional gear and another person usually.

Either way, it's a good time to be an independent filmmaker

Thanks for all your helpful thoughts on this.

I basically faced another round of going in circles or, as a previous poster said, going out and shooting some video.

I chose the latter. I have ordered the thing. Wish me luck!

Congrats & good luck. Like any new cam, you will hit some snags and when you do- search here and you will find your answers. You will then grow to love the camera as we all have:love4:

You bet. I tend to be a prolific poster in most communities I join - and you all seem to be a competent and decent group of people.
