Why import?

Well that may be a very stupid question and i probably already know the answer, but is it possible to import a DV Pal file into an Avid XPress Project (also DVPal) without having to import/rerender it with the avid, like in FCP or Premiere.

If not, why is that and: isnt that insane...?
 
In most cases, Avid will do a fast import from DV files, where it just copies the digital data across without recompressing. That avoids any quality loss.
 
ah, well didnt know avid just copies the file, but even then, seems a bit like wasting time... would be better if you the user had a choice.
