Why I love P2 / Hate Tape!!!

On my way home tonight, I happened upon a freight train on fire about a mile from Disneyland. My HVX was at the office. I have a MiniDV palmcorder that I keep in the car for moments like these... so I shot about 10 minutes of footage. I was the first person there, I called 911, and not another camera was around. So I'm thinking I've got a great opportunity unfolding here.

I race back to my office to upload the footage and start calling the news desks and then I discover that my handy little palmcorder recorded 8 minutes of head clog that finally worked free in time to see the last 2 minutes of the firefighters cleaning up!!!! :furious3:

Lesson Learned:
KEEP THE HVX WITH ME AT ALL TIMES!!!!!

Long Live P2...

:Drogar-Evil(DBG):
ya Im going to get one of those itty-bitty Panny AVCHD handy cams that records to SD cards for situations like this

I carry the HVX everywhere I go. My wife gets embarassed when I show up with my big blue portabrace case for dinner at a restaurant.
She really gets embrassed when I start setting up food shots while she is eating!!

mike.. good thing you've been married for a while, right?

I had a similar tape clog problem... gosh that stinks fo sho'

Oh yeah, you know the old joke
"we have been married so long that my
wife finishes my sentences"
Well my wife carries on complete conversations
without me.
She knew she was in trouble when I took all my
Nikons on the honeymoon!!

At least your wife is having conversations, mine has arguments with me when I'm not around... it's strange, I always seem to loose.

:)

The producer for the feature I'm shooting right now is using the SupaCam for behind the scenes work. It seems pretty capable especially for the price. I might look at it as a replacement for the Elura that let me down last night.

What??
That supacam looks like a joke...
11megapixels!! Come On! that thing has got to be vaporware or a complete POS
I will wait for an AVCHD cam from Panny..
However at that price, I hope someone proves me wrong!

It is purely point and shoot fun, by no means a serious shooting tool. I'll post some images once I get copies from the Producer. It's definately not vaporware, held it in my hand a few days ago, and it felt pretty real. :) To be clear, the 11 megapixels is for stills, it is strictly SD for video. That being said, I'm a firm believer in the idea that a crappy little camera with you is better than a great camera sitting on the shelf (unless that crappy little camera has a head clog and blows 10 minutes worth of exclusive footage! ouch! )

yeah forget that supacam thing those guys show up at all the conventions and sell truckloads of them to people.. its basically like a webcam recording.. no better than an Isight... i guess it is better than nothing though, but there are other solid state HD palmcorders out there now

Definitely plenty of choices. But the latest incarnation of the Supacam has an actual CCD that has been greatly improved over the image sensor from the earlier model. For $299, the Supacam is pretty cool.
