Why has my thread been deleted?

Yesterday I posted a thread about the HVX200. It was a JOKE and 1 of three persons who answered could find some fun in that joke. It was a DARKBLACK joke full of irony and it got deleted by Neil some minutes after I posted it.

WHY did't I recieve a reason? - I asked by private message but didn't get any answer....

How can a thread get deleted without breaking any forum rule?

Or did I break any rule? With a joke? WHICH rule is that?

First of all, Neil closed / locked the thread. That was for me a very good compromiss: people can read the joke - calling me names and it's over. No bad words in the answers and just read it once, then the nightmare is over...

Unfortunately I'm afraid to release the joke again for people who didn't read it, because some could delete this thread either (good-bye freedom of press...). The joke was a long sentence that was turned anastrophically. Anastrophes make jokes or news (often used for commercials) start very positively and end either negatively or with rhetorically hidden elements that want to be undetected. My joke started positively, attracting people and ended with a hypothesis that nobody wanted to hear. It's the kind of joke like: "You won a million! - That's what I'd have told you if you had joined and won our contest..."

I expected this forum to be journalistic - and in journalism self-criticism is very important to stay objective. Lacking self-criticism is very unprofessional and makes words too subjective.

My joke was only self-critic and there was no single bad word and no single lie in it. If the moderators are self-critic and journalistic enough, they should tolerate that kind of jokes. Don't you all tolerate the Simpsons? - Aren't they very self-critic with your country, politics, military and actual/ancient presidents?

Well how can you tolerate that kind of jokes and not tolerate my joke?

If we are not blind, then we all know how journalistic pictures of wars have to look like / be made and how subjective, filtered, faked pictures look like. Journalism is dead without self-criticism. This is an allusion - and some people will understand what I ment by this example - others won't, and I'm sorry for those... My joke was even critizising myself:

Aren't we all sick of waiting for the HVX 200 and recieving the same links, pictures, brochures and infos about that camera again and again and each time, the thread says: "have you seen this new XX yet?" - And many users start making jokes in that kind of threads. My joke was a thread about this itself. And it's not more self-criticism that you can find in all the posts of that kind. But mine got deleted.

Is my joke a taboo in the USA? - Well then I'm sorry about your country and suggest you to forbid the Simpsons too...

If the reason is really that you just can't bear it and close your eyes in front of the mirror - then again I'm very sorry for you. Sometimes it's hard to bear reality, but we have to and at least we can make some jokes about it. Close your eyes if you can't bear it, but don't keep back jokes like mine from other users.

cici,

i simply closed your thread and i explained why in a post before locking the thread. people were obviously not responding in any sort of manner that is going to lead to anything of good nature in the forum. so i closed it. however, I did not delete your thread. I simply left it closed so that it would not continue to spiral downward but people could view it. my actions were based more on the reponses to your post than your actual post. I would imagine that the thread was later deleted by a moderator because it contains no real news and is likely to only continue to upset a number of people that view it. ..all in all i see that youve become a little upset about the deleting of your post. but lets remember that it was only a joke, and had no real importance or information to share, not to mention it was instigating some pretty upset replies from its readers. to be fair, although i didnt delete your post, i wouldnt say that im at all suprised it was deleted. politics cause trouble and they are not allowed.. and if a little joke causes trouble... it too will likely see its end. if people had replied.. haha.. thats funny. it probably wouldnt have been deleted or closed. but since the general response was some sort of four letter laced foul language aimed at you. im not really sure why your sad or suprised to see a joke that was upsetting people go.
perhaps a different comedic style next time? .. anyway, .hope that expalins it.

How about this -- you posted bad information -- a joke, if you'd like to call it that -- not in the Cafe' where things are looser, but in the HVX forum which is there for exchange of information, not screwing around with people.

I didn't delete it; Hudson did, but I support it.

Hi Neil!

You got the point! - I'm upset about the joke beeing HIDDEN - not locked. You only locked it, (and that was OK) so no answers were possible. I saw 3 negative and 1 positive answer before it was closed. And I'm glad that it was not you who deleted it. Your explanation was about locking/closing the thread and it was MORE THAN OK! - And I'm rather "upset" about an anonymous moderator that doesn't accept ironic jokes here. I would have understood if any moderator would have deleted BAD WORDS, POLITICAL THOUGHTS, RACISM, or ANY BREAKING of FORUM RULES. (can't remember having used anything politic in my 1-line joke...)

but deleting WITHOUT giving a reason and me not breaking any rule of the forum, and without saying WHO deleted my post..... afraid of communication? What about just delete it and post me a reason? - Just say: "this is my forum and I don't want jokes that make me cry today - and laugh in december" (after the release of the HVX, the joke would have magically changed in its sense... some who don't laugh today, would have laughed then... but no laugh at all, if you delete human entertainement in this forum.

Sorry by the way to entertain you. I'm just a creative comedian and a journalist, studiying communications. Success with some audience doesn't mean success with ANY audiance. Europe is my platform -

Don't forget that behind all electronic engineering, there's a lot of creativity, phantasy, thinking beyond limits. A filter in front of your lens will paint your view and you can go on communicating. But who ever deleted my thread didn't paint it / judge it didn't put a filter in front of it, but a lens-cap.

Give me a reason and I'll obey and perhaps look for other platforms. I'm moderator in a European video-forum, but It's limited on software and amateur or semi-professional chat, so I thought having found a better platform here to go deeper in the matter. Let's see how right or wrong I was, thinking this forum would enlarge my horizon, because that's what I'm talking about all the time: enlarging our horizons. Sometimes with a joke about ourselves.

-- you posted bad information --

what do you understand by "bad information" ?

There was no single lie in my sentence and no mis-information, just some ironic black joke about oruselves waiting for the HVX and the hallucinations we see each day (things we consider beeing footage or frame grabs or suddenly some read the HVX can record HDV and so on.... ) we are like drunken.... sick.... and so

the joke was on it's right place, because if you understand it, then you understand that it won't work as an offtopic-thread. It's HVX-news, so it belongs there. Even if it's a joke. There are many threads in "HVX news" related much less with HVX than my joke was. It was 100% HVX pure!

Explain me that thing about "bad information" and explain me why other posts with real WRONG information (mine had no wrong information, if it had, then proof it) are still at their places, NOT beeing deleted.

Cici, let it go.

All forums are different. You learned something about this one. Go from there.

That's just the point: NO, I didn't learn anything, because I didn't recieve the reason yet for deleting my post... can't see why a joke can be deleted and wrong information not.....

Is it because people got upset? - Then the rule is: don't post words that could upset people in a negative way.... I can accept this. But 1) much more posts should be deleted then and 2) just pronounce it! - Tell me that rule. Warn me: "Cici, don't write things of this kind, because we will delete them, because people get upset about them."

Without reason, I don't know what I did wrong and people give me 3 explanations... now which one is the REAL reason? - Until you tell me the real reason, I still think, that you can't bear the joke about yourself. The joke is an optical illusion: YOU are tricking YOURSELF while reading the joke.

Filter, make-up, lens-cap.

Dude......move on...its only a post..its not like your losing money or something over it...

damn..there's no point to get madd worked over this...its not that big of a deal.

Quite a few number of my posts were deleted because they might of said..one or two things that the mods thought wasnt suited to this forum...and i can understand that..they just try to keep this forum neutral as possible...regarding politics and other things that could cause a really huge debate.

just forget bout it..its just a post...

Dude

I get your source of frustration - things are pretty loosey goosey around her and you thought you were doing something in the name of fun and feel you were slapped on the wrist in a disrespectful manner since there was no dialogue as to why your thing was deleted --- thats a completely reasonable perspective -- totally.

But its kinda like that sign in bars that says they reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason ... and I gues they felt there was a reason. When you get the headsup beforehand that something is going to be deleted that's a courtesy - not a right.

And it sounds like you were given several concrete reasons...

Locked down for:
- politics
- not everyone got whatever your joke was and it was irritating some people
Deleted for:
- the likelihood that it might rub other memebers the wrong way
(a call made easier by the fact that the post contained no hard facts was intended for entertainment purposes which means it was misposted in the NEWS section in the first place as it should probably have been in the Cafe.)

I'm sorry yout post got deleted and hope you don't stay too ticked for too long :)

Dude . . .

I *strongly* suggest you take the advice of the other members of the forum.

Right now I'm pissed just for reading this thread. The only thing I'm going to add is that this is a community of filmmakers coming together to discuss the DVX and HVX cameras. We disuss filmmaking, tools, and methods of filmmaking. It is a community, but it is a community in Jarred's backyard. That being said, the moderators police the backyard. Play by the rules, accept it, and move on. This is the kind of thread that is just a complete waste (and thus so is my post for contributing to it).
