Why duplicate frames from my DVX footage in Final Cut?

Just realized recently that the only way to get true 24 frames in the editing process is to shoot 24PA - but what about my 24P and 30P footage? As I move through it frame by frame I get a duplicate shot every 5th frame - but I have occasionally managed to get all the frames, and I know they're there because the scopes register a movement.

This is driving me nuts. I have tried every which way in Final Cut (6.0.1) to get all my frames visible, and sometimes I get them, sometimes I don't. Right now I've got a sequence with an interview shot recently, it's all cut up to remove the questions from the interviewer, and some portions show all frames, and some do not. any suggestions?

Nick,

I'm grapplling with this as well, and haven't actually imported the footage yet, but...
did you check out the appendicies in the back of the FCP manual Vol IV? On page 419 it talks about what you may be experiencing. I think you might be seeing the interlaced frame. Are you editing in a 29.97 or 23.38 timeline? Would it work to pull down the footage to 24p to edit? Also, check out this link I just found: http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/24p_in_FCP_nattress.html
