why doesn't the DVX have component output on the camera?

using component video cables so that you can feed out to a TV with component in. This would allow you to view your footage in progressive scan on something other than a computer monitor

Simple response: expensive unnecessary feature. Please tell me how that would make a difference on a normal TV - component vs composite. Progressive pictures have nothing to do with the display device, it is all about how it is captured.

Like I said, and PanasonicNZ as well.

Kinda unnecessary. Maybe you didn't understand what you were asking.

It would be useful to do a dub to digibeta or beta SP.
some set-top dvd burners have firewire in and component out...

I don't think any standard-def camera has component outputs... even a broadcast camera like a $40,000 BetaSX cam doesn't have component outputs.

Sure would be nice to have 'em, but it's something that just hasn't ever been done, has it?

All the new HD cameras have component outputs, but standard-def cams don't...

I hook my DVX up to my Panasonic DVD-R recorder all the time and watch the footage on my 42 inch plasma and everything looks good! No need for component cables. I just try to use a very good S-Video Cable (Monster cable) and some gold plated RCA audio jacks and call it a day!

It would be nice if stuff like DVD RECORDERS and/or Hi end TV's would have Firewire jacks on them

You can get Firewire on some Panasonic DVD recorders (DMR-E100 for instance). I'm not sure about the latest models though...
IMHO, monster cables an gold plated RCA for audio is throwing money over the window. There's no difference between what you get from a decent quality no name cable and the "monster" ones (monster price, maybe?...). Component is good for long runs and for projectors (big screens, where s%&t shows up). On a tv, s-video is more than enough.
