GH4 Why doesn't flicker show on GH4 LCD?

How come flicker doesn't show up on the LCD screen? Just curious as to why. Am I wrong or didn't flicker show up on the DVX-100? Maybe even GH2? But I'm not seeing it on the GH4 LCD, I only notice it whenl I get the footage into an editor. Am I missing something here?

Well I say flicker but it is actually lines moving vertically in the image. It happens in 96fps with house lights (North America, only 288 degree shutter alleviates it) and also my computer monitor causes rolling lines throughout the parts of the image the light reflects off of in a shot where the only light is coming from the monitor itself. I understand certain shutter speeds alleviate this but it would be nice to see the problem on the LCD to know that it is happening, then adjust shutter speed on the spot and see when it goes away, but it isn't showing on LCD.

Here is a quick example. Notice the bright parts of the table.

Copy and paste the whole address above. Link cut off early and doesn't work.

I don't think so. I got caught out on several occasions while shooting in S.E. Asia where I hadn't set the correct shutter speed for florescent lights and didn't realize until I got home. Perhaps it's the type of technology used in the display.

i've always assumed i couldn't see flicker like this because of the low resolution of the GH2/GH4 LCD, and the small screen size. If the rolling lines are moving fairly fast across the screen, or if the camera is pointed at a bland, white wall where it's easy to see discoloration.... then i can usually catch it on the GH2 or GH4 LCD.

Hmmm, I dropped my LCD refresh rate from 60 to 30. I wonder if that affects the visibility of the lines? I'll have to experiment more.

Shouldn't have an effect. I don't recall changing any particular setting on my GH3 that'll do that either.

Some things to think about: The LCD can only show up to 60fps, so when recording 96fps it isn't going to show an accurate representation as far as flicker until after the clip is recorded and made into a 30/25/24fps clip, since it can't show 96fps in realtime. Kind of annoying.

The other thing to check is to see if you have Constant Preview on in the Custom Menu. This will ensure that the LCD will always be reflecting your current f-stop, shutter speed, iso, etc, even when you aren't actively recording.
