Hi,
I'm trying to get a workflow down for Premiere and it seems there are two characters which are going to be the end of me.
My ideal workflow involves leaving the camera's PRIVATE folders alone in a safe folder, and when I want to edit them I fire up the transcoder and create temporary transcode files to edit with.
After editing, I'd like to nuke those .MXF files since they take up lots of disk space and can easily be recreated later. But here's the problem: there are always two random characters in every file, so when I re-create all of my footage, say, a month later, Premiere won't find any of it's files!
Instead of looking for 1001UV.MXF, now it needs to find 1001HZ.MXF. I've tried to batch rename them all to remove those nasty little characters, but if I do that they loose association with the audio files which are even worse: 1001HZ01.MXF
I don't understand the MXF structure well enough to know how to relink the video and audio files (plus my regular expression editing is a bit rusty). It also needs to be a relatively simple workflow since in theory I'll have to do this to every card I dump.
Does anyone know the technical reason those characters are there? I'm almost tempted to go buy one of those commercial transcoders (like NeoScene) if they can at least generate consistent file names!
Thanks.
