Why do people hate Michael Bay so much?

It seems everyone has there own definition of what a hack is. The Scott boys are better than bay I agree. I will still see transformers 2 opening day. As I'm sure a lot of bay haters will as well. I'm curious who else do you think could have done a better transformers movie?

I haven't seen it, since I swore after PEARL HARBOR never to watch a Bay movie again. I made an exception for THE ISLAND at the reccomendation of some friends, and while the first half was interesting, the second just fell away into another chase movie/Bay movie.

But Bay is probably well suited to TRANSFORMERS. He can do action scenes, and knows how to direct robots (he's worked with Affleck twice). Perhaps he'll just make Transformers/Bad Boys sequels - apparently Will Smith wants another one. At least the Bad Boys movies had two fun, charismatic leads.

Speaking of Bennifer, while he's dropped off the acting radar, he made GONE BABY GONE last year which was actually REALLY GOOD! Even Ben Affleck's a better director than Bay!

Sounds like Bay to me. Apparently on the BAD BOYS 2 DVD, he rips into Martin Lawrence for accidentally scratching a ferrari - the ferrari belonged to Bay.

The only other director I can think of who cops as much schtick as Bay is Lucas for the recent Star Wars movies. While I understand why, I'll never crticize GL.

I think in 50 years time he'll be remembered not for the Star Wars movies, but for the extraordinary technical innovations he's brought. He pioneered the field of CG through ILM (although many today do it better), but his 2 main innovations were his revolutionization of sound used in theatres, and bringing full frame HD cameras into feature film production. The DVX cameras came from that very technology. If it weren't for Lucas, we'd probably still be shooting cruddy interlaced video.

Every where I look People Bash Michael Bay. Maybe I just like seeing explosions and Gunfights. Would like to hear why People hate or love the guy.

Dunno,

Miami Vice was my favorite show when I was 25 to 40 years old... And still is :)

Dhuu, Ohh. Insert foot in mouth....

Sorry Mr. Mann....

Who is Bay? Is that the guy from the errector set movie?

"Hey.... you... yea you, DP. Shoot the **** out of this scene. Im gonna go bang that kraft services broad...."

-Michael Bayonne.

Michael bay is an INCREDIBLE commercial director.

Can't disagree with you there, Timur. But that's kind of the point: he's all style, no substance. David Fincher is a great commercials director, but also a great feature director. Bay isn't.

So people don't hate M.B, they just hate his work.
That's fine. I think I'd word the title a little differently though.
Kind of gave me the wrong impression, but hey I'm war..., er canc..., er cool, whatever.

People hate him because he makes money, and a lot of it.

Why? Because he sells what people want to see. Maybe story in your mind should sell millions. But if that was the case, why don't you have millions?

Bay directs films that people want to see. Mindless adrenalin films that take you out of daily crap. Which is why he makes money. No more complex than that.

MIAMI VICE was Michael Mann having a Michael Bay moment.

I watched Miami Vice last night. I told my wife that I might be the only one who really loves that movie. For some reason the look just connects with me. The cameras he used produced amazing images to me. I know..I know...

Miami vice is on the Sleuth channel every day :)

It was all shot on film back then.

I had a 4 day weekend and watched a Bad boys, The Rock, Bad Boys 2, and Transformers. (Hey my kids were gone and I was bored.) For what it's worth that man sure knows how to direct an action scene, no matter who may be pulling the strings. The Final scenes of all of these movies were spectacular IMO.
