Other: Why did it take so long?

The Canon 5d MKll was the culprit. Red had a 2/3rd inch chip $3k camera ready to go and then the Canon came along with its full frame sensor. Jannard saw its popularity, got scared no one would want a 2/3rd inch chip and killed it. Even billionaires get scared and make mistakes. The 2/3rd inch scarlet was his perfect gateway drug in keeping a loyal purchasing base for his higher end cams. He blew it big time.

I have news for you.

The CURRENT S35 Scarlet is that same gateway drug to the Epic.

Ask any Scarlet owner.

He lost nothing by going S35.

Ditto...imagine the outcry from the lower-budget indie folks about finding lenses for the 2/3rd chip? I can't even imagine, lol. S35 was the right choice. Thankfully, with the Dragon sensor upgrade which is a long way off for Scarlet, some of those Epic features will likely be brought to the Scarlet. If they can even give Scarlet users decent slow-mo at higher resolution, I'm sure many would be far more satisfied with not going EPIC. With the upgrades the Epic is getting with Dragon, the gap will remain the same so I see no need for them to hold off the slow-mo features for fear of cannibalizing EPIC. The Scarlet is great, but the EPIC will always be...well...EPIC :)

In response to "Why did it take so long?" I don't think it's taken long at all. I think the speed that things are moving is mind-blowing. But, that's me...
