Why Deniro is my hero

I think when someone says be more enthusiastic they obviously mean act like your selling a car. duh.
 
Some directors are technical and some are actors directors

That's a classic director saying nothing instead of communicating
 
I think this is why DeNiro has never sucked in a role. If the director is giving **** direction, he simply ignores what they say and does it his way...

I'm contemplating doing this myself... If I'm getting bad direction from the director (I'm an actor), either ignore it and just do it the way I was going to in the first place or being vocal about it... what do you guys think?
 
there seems to be a lot of criticism towards the director. what should he have said instead?

"Okay, that was good. Lets do it again, this time... do you think you could say it as if you were having a good time on some sort of... happy drug?"
 
I think a good idea, since obviously the director of this commercial isn't Scorsese or anyone he chose to work with, would be to show him the playback. "Look at this and maybe ... " Iv'e heard of many great actors late in their career meltdown in these situations, Orsen wells famously, because it's unnatural to have Deniro be directed in a 10 sec spot.
 
yeah. I mean really how much direction can you give for a 10 sec spot for TV? Of course he's not going to have any enthusiasm. plus I hear deniro is pretty bland when it comes to being himself.
 
I understand what the director wanted, but he should have known that DeNiro doesn't roll that way. The guy is the epidome of cool.

Subtlety. And Deniro's right. No one is going to pay attention if he hollers at the screen & cat calls the audience. He appears sincere and honest.

Endorsements are sticky situations for actors. Some people would never do them in the first place. He probably is disgusted with himself for appearing in commercials to begin with.

This isn't a commercial. It's for the Tribeca film festival, of which he is one of the founders.
