Why can't we have a genius of our own??

Ummm.....if it was never good enough to make videos with then why buy it to make videos just because it was cheap? Clearly it was good enough to do something with.

Anyway, maybe look into a GH1. $650 body only and you can use your Nikon glass.

I have been following your post and can't believe how the Mods have not brought this to your attention. You sound like a salesman for the Gh1 and no matter what forum section you are in your are always bragging about this camera. Honestly I think it needs to stop.

Now if you got to Ebay right now you cannot buy a Gh1 body only for less than $799 if not more. So your whole $650 might have existed but the word must be out and everyone has raised their prices. I think I speak on behalf of the Nikon and Cannon community when I say that your Panasonic Gh1 Love needs to stop.

If Nikon D90 users can get the same hack then why would it bother you? Nothing personally Ben as I respect you as an excellent talent to these boards but you need to relax my friend.

why not? with your definition of good enough there would never be any use for anything beyond vhs-c. i guess more research on how to reverse lobotomies is what's necessary here, simple repetition just doesn't seem to work in all cases.

The point of the posts I've been making in this thread is this: if you're camera is good enough for you and you'd like it to be better then that's fine, wish it was better, but go out and shoot some awesome stuff with it. And if it's not good enough for you, then maybe consider a different one, whatever camera that might be.

As a side note, I love the D90. Great stills, good looking video, and really fun to use. Wish it had stop down metering though. I love Nikon design and usability, and I love that they've managed to pack a pro DSLR feel into a lower end body. The thing kicks the crap out of the competition in that range for stills, and Nikon should be applauded for understanding that people want 24p...I feel like they get it more than Canon did...they're just lagging behind a bit. I can't wait to see what they put out. People saying that Nikon can't do video because they don't have a video division don't know how these companies are organized.

And if it's not good enough for you, then maybe consider a different one
again, there weren't any different ones at the time and i can assure you that everyone who spends half their time dreaming of a hack spend the rest considering a different camera. what exacty is the point you think you're arguing against? i shoot on everything from dv and super 8 to dslr, red and 35mm every month using whatever camera i want or what happens to be available, and i still would appreciate a d90 hack. and i'm so sick and tired of explaining such simple things to all the pixel counters and wedding videographers here over and over again that i want to scream. arrrrrrrrgggghhhhhh...

Mattias...what's going on man? How's Med school? The baby? And where can we see (buy) your D90 movie?

ok, sorry for the ot: med school going fine, i'm even smarter than i thought. ;-) baby boy crawls faster than my eye can track, time to hide cameras and surfboards. the film is finally through post and has been submitted to all the major festivals so stay tuned. (thanks, i feel better now, it's exhausting getting upset like that)

Nikon needs to be shamed into offering a firmware upgrade. Not just to over better color space, but how about better sharpness. Along with F stop and shutter speed control. Along with keep the picture from dropping frames. Being a longtime and satisfied Nikon user and having a lot of Nikkor Glass, I thought it was an easy choice. I even thought Nikon would offer firmware upgrades. It's not a mistake I will make again, I just never by anything from Nikon, at least not new.

The read-reset on the Nikon can't be fixed with a firmware upgrade, I don't think... and that is (arguably) its biggest issue. I think their hardware is too limited for a firmware upgrade to help much.

Also, Nikon was first to the game with DSLR-video; it's not their fault that Canon and Panasonic one-upped them. The D1S was their last camera, and we haven't seen their next-gen camera and the new video technology it might offer. But I expect good things from them, since they don't have a professional division to sabotage them.
