Why can't I watch HD clip?

What exactly do I need to actually view the HD clips
I download. Is it the monitor? Is it the video card?
Where do I start.
I have a 3ghz p4 with Nvidia Geforce
and 2 Dell 2001FPW monitors.

My screen just goes black. What am I doing wrong?
am I HD compatible?

Thanks,
Adrian

What kind of files are you downloading exactly? What is the filename extension? Most probably you're mising the codec.

yep sounds like you don't have the proper codec to watch it. Monitors make no difference, it's in the software.

The file types are just mpg, some of the clips in the Sony forum for the FX,
just turn my screen black and require me to reboot. What codec should
I be looking for?
Thanks,
Adrian

If its the Sony HDR-FX1 then the format is HDV, the codec is actually MPEG2. The same techonology that used in DVD's.

The raw files should have a .m2t extension, these are MPEG2 TRANSPORT Streams not the same as .m2v or .mpg which are MPEG2 PROGARM Streams.

Anyhow, make sure you set your display to 1280*768 (or higher) and use either

(a) VLC (VideoLan)
(b) rename the extention of the .m2t file to .mpg and let windows media player run it, although I expect that this will play rather slowly.

I have an 2GHz PC and have no trouble playing these files smoothly using VLC, Windows payer on the other hand "stutters"

Download VLC from ;

Hope that helps

Downloaded VLC, I saw the first second of the m2t file.
The screen turned black, then it turned blue and said it was stuck
in an infinite loop. blah blah. It may be the piece of crap
Integrated Intel Extreme "Dell" graphic card. Ya think?
