Why can't I capture? :(

Hi. I recently purchased Avid Axpress Pro. I have a DVX100; I plug it into my firewire port and switch to VTR. I can hear the windows beeboop and the windows dialogue asking me if i want to record. I click no and resume in Avid. I go to the capture menu and it says "no deck". I click "check decks" and no luck. Then I try and configure the deck in the deck configuration settings. Still no recognition. I checked the settings under the recording menu in the camera itself; they all look good according to the Avid website. What's the dillio?

Re: Why can't I capture? :(

this may have no effect.. this is the order I would do it... what if you plug in the camera, turn it on, when it ""beeboop"s click "Take no action" instead of "no" and THEN fire up Avid.

Re: Why can't I capture? :(

Just turn the camera on AFTER Avid has loaded. You can configure further by "Adjust Deck."

Also, FYI, it is not recommended to use your DVX as a deck. Once in a while is fine. Otherwise, a lot of wear and tear goes on your camera heads (and they were not meant for that kind of use). I recommend getting a cheap MiniDV camera to use as a "deck." Or better yet, get a real deck (such as a Sony DSR-11) for this purpose.

Re: Why can't I capture? :(

thanks for your help guys. It worked when I turned the VTR on BEFORE I started Avid.

I realize that its not good to use the camera as a deck so I have a little Canon ZR10 that I can use.

Now.....my new problem. Avid doesnt recognize the ZR10. I tried turning it on before and after Avid starts and I cant get it to recognize the camera.

Same deal, windows recognizes it immediately but not Avid.

Any ideas?

P.S.
(I checked the avid website and someone posted that they got their ZR10 working - so it must be possible, right?)

Re: Why can't I capture? :(

So it worked the way I suggested with the DVX100 but if you go through the same step its no go with the canon? but windows recognizes it?
