Why can't a I mess with the knee when cinegamma is on?

And why can't I select the visual frequency depth always on thick when shooting in HD?

I thought I recalled an article recently when a director DP shooting a Subway commercial said he adjusted the knee. Was he just not using cinemagamma? If so, what were his settings?

The knee modifies the highlight handling of the gamma curve. With cine-like-D and cine-like-v, they have a fixed curve, so no knee manipulation is possible. But you'll still get more latitude from cine-D than you would from HD Norm even with the knee set at "low".

Peter Kagan shot that Subway commercial, and I don't recall the settings but you can search the threads here to find where he's commented on it, and perhaps write a PM to him or Evinsky.
