Why Canadians Are So Tired

Hockey could have stayed out for all I care, but now it's back Telus has gone on strike and it looks like a long one 6 to 9 months.......That's what all the bickerins about! :)

Oh - and you can't buy guns in Quebec (legally), or the rest of Canada, any easier than you could in France - I suspect. .

Actually, last week I just went with Nick (of art history fame) to a gun store so he could by a semi automatic hand gun.. was a pretty easy process... albeit I am not a gun guy so I felt a little out of place.

as for the quebecois, I don't know much about it. In school they just taught us about the FLQ, a terrorist organization, went around blowing people up to liberate Quebec from Canada. They had to send in the Canadian Army to restore order.

I think that probally didn't help Quebec's cause out.. kinda like the how the entire Islam/musslim population kinda has gotten the shaft from all the current terrorism.

To buy a gun in Canada you need a very specific license. It's a Possesssion/Acquisition Licence. There are two possible components of this licence. Fo Restricted (Hand guns) and Non-Retricted (Shotguns and Rifles) You cannot and never could buy Prohibited class of guns, (Fully Automatic) Always illeagal. If you owned guns before the new system you could get a Possession only Licence whcih means you can keep your guns but can't buy new ones.

You need to take a course and pass a test, plus a fairly extensive backgroubd check to get any version of the licence. They want to know if you have ever been divorced, etc. You even need to have your spouse (mostly wives, since most gun buyers are men) sign off on the application before the govt will give you a licence.

Handguns have been retrsicted since approx 1930. The majority of gun crime in Canada is commited by criminals that are not licenced (obviously) and purchased on the black market.

Contrary to popular belief, there is very little gun crime in Canada. Less than 150 deaths per year. The RCMP always inflate that number to include a domestic call where a leagally owned gun mey have been found in the house, but had nothing to do with the police call. They will state numbers closer to 500 incedents, but this is there fuzzy stat to drive fear and maintain budgets etc.

I consider myself left of centre somewhat, but I was raised a country boy where hunting and fishing is a way of life and not considered evil. It drives me crazy when I see our Liberal govt or big city politicians denagrate hunters as crazy gun owners. Again, you never see a corn farmer take his "rabbit gun" and go down and rob the 7-11. There is no connection between crime and these groups.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

BTW - Montreal rocks! Great party town, and very friendly to non-francaphones. (most likley because it's such a tourist place, they can't get all curt with the visitors.)

I used to ski at Mount Saint Anne. That was fun too.

I think everyone should learn Klingon and make that the national language for all of this side of the world! We fight enough amongst ourselves, might as well speak the language of warriors!

yes knockout.. your right, however it is easy to get a normal license.. And for Hand guns Nick had to take a course and pass a test and wait along time..it putsa buffer zone in there by stopping people from running out and buying a gun to blow away the next-door-neighbor-that's-sleeping-with-your-wife-in-a-fit-of-rage kinda thing... its a very good system in Canada for that sort of thing.

Plus the license also doesnt let you to rock around with a gun rack in the back window of the truck or stuff it in the glove compartment... your only allowed to transport your gun to and from a firing range, i think you need to store it and the ammo in 2 seperate locked safes etc... they dont mess around, and really, its how it should be.

I dont know about Klingon, but I would vote to make everyone speak shakespeare.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE!!!!

I’m actually learning something non film/tech geek related, goddamnit!

THAT’S NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN -- YOUR DE-MUSHING MY BRAIN!
You Canadians must not realize how important a mushed brain is to the American Identity – with all of this actually socially relevant information your taking up space reserved for highly pertinent Will and Grace Episodes and short circuiting the hard wired impulse sector controlling the need to buy Goonies lunch boxes, electronic woopie cushions, and to eat at McDonalds. If you keep this up there’s a danger that the Americans reading this thread will have their heads “de-mushed” to the point that Bush will stop making sense to them!

Please for the love of God revert to one of the stock DVX geek topics that makes my girlfriend’s eyes glaze over if I relate what SO&SO333 said regarding any of the following:
1 – anamorphic lens – too much trouble or well worth it
2 – desjecta: artistic craft master or only good because of where he lives? Discuss.
3 – how hot the girl was in that last grab (thanks for trying JH)
4 – XL2, a fine alternative to the DVX or more expensive piece of cack.
5 – upfuzzing
6 – how hot the girl was in that last grab (preferably including some pun relating her rack with rack focus).
7 – 35mm adaptors: the second coming, or over rated and overused: Discuss.
8 – I liked your short, but it would have been better with more blood – Content Content Content!
9 – how the Deadkidz finance their films and make a living selling women’s underpants online
10 – 1)accuse someone of being a fanboy, 2) sit back and watch the sparks fly 3) The cost of being a DVXuser: free. The cost of seeing Hudson in action when he’s pissed of : priceless!
11—how hot that girl was in the last grab (preferably with some subtle or explicit reference to masturbation – “I need a tissue”, Q: “why is no one responding to my clip post?” A: “I think they saw the girl in your clip and they’re … uh taking care of business.”, “Nice work… (insert lewd comment)”.
12 – how long your DVXuser battery lasted after you got it, turned on your camera, and gleefully waited until it turned off.
13 – film is dead: Discuss
14 – any Star Trek / Sci Fi / Comic Book Convention reference (thanks for trying Moonwind).

This thread is particularly distressing, because, not only is techno / boob tube / fast food induced brain mush an important part of being an American, but an even bigger part of our identity is the fact the we know NOTHING about Canada!
So please, I beg of you, cease and desist. before I …

…Damn. Too late. I learned something relevant! How very Canadian of me.

BTW: The girl in that race track grab = washboard abs with junk in the trunk - Nice!
Gotta go ... "take care of business".

Quebec doesn't count for any of the above.. those whackjobs are too busy speaking french and trying to figure out how to be thier own country.
Jarred
Also those Quebecers have the most head offices, not branch offices , but their own. Maybe they are the smart Cdns?? Eh!!!

I once picked up a girl on a trip to France and was so stoked on myself to have had "relations" for a night with a French girl.....turns out the next day she was from Quebec just visiting France like me. I have to say I was bummed. Not that Quebec isn't cool but it totally ruined what I thought would be the best Paris story ever when I got back home. But then again everyone I meet in Vancouver BC is from Bellingham...........
