Why are dslr rigs so unjustifiably expensive?

I just placed an order for the CPM Film Tools cage with a top handle and 1/4-20 inserts. Fills a massive void on the new rig I'm building. Can't wait for it to get here!

C'mon guys, I really want to buy a shoulder rig but to me, the costs are extremely high. I'm not talking about being able to afford it or not, but the prices are just injustifiably.
Take the zacuto double barrel as example. "$3857.00". In my opinion, there's no way it should cost that much.
It's just me or the rigs and accessories for dslr are really inflated?

Here is a 2011 HYOSUNG 250 GTr motorcycle for $3,999.

Btw, It's been about 4 months and I am STILL waiting for Ginirig people to write me back on some questions I asked them! :)

There's your mistake. You said Ginirig "people". There are no people. I think it's just one guy, and he doesn't speak english none too good. So the reply may or may not be forthcoming as he is probably in his machine shop making stuff. The rock bottom prices come at a price. Little to no customer service.

yea but that handheld rig has the EVF, and Follow Focus as part of the kit. They are both worth a thousand dollars + each.

the hand held rig part, isnt that expensive.

Zacuto double barrel as example $3,857 You get the handle bars and the break levers,

For $143 more you get the rest of the motorcycle. 2011 HYOSUNG 250 GTr motorcycle for $3,999.

This stuff is way overprices for what you get. If you think the better part of 4 grand is a good value for some cut tubes, bicycle hand grips, and a nylon focus gear go for it. Let me know how much you get back when you try to sell it.

At first a Loupe cost over $400 now they are $39. Get real, your getting ripped.

You don't need to sell it, that's the point. I've been using my zacuto baseplate and very basic accesories for 6 years now. Its out lived a dvx100, HVX200, RedOne, 5D and now its on a F3... I feel like it will go on my epic or whatever I am using in the future....

Why do parts for my Wife's Landrover cost twice what they do for my Focus?
Why are parts for My Diesel Silverado twice what they are for my Gas F150?
Why are parts for my Colt 1911 twice what they are for my Taurus 454?
Why are parts for my Harley twice what they are for my Suzuki Boulevard?

Because they can and if they can, they will!

Ugh, this thread...

If you don't want to buy, DON'T BUY.

I'm picking up on an entitlement mentality here averring that, because you own a camera, film equipment manufacturers are obligated to provide you service at a cost convenient to you for an arbitrary moment in time.

There are $150 Follow Focus units, and there are some you can't even own. Be a conscious money manager and get what you can afford. If you spend well, it will pay for itself.

The question was "Why" Jordan....not "Should I?"

The why is obvious despite the BS about quality or Uncle Wang slaving over his mini lathe and not answering emails.

It's not obvious because you keep trying to get people to agree with your feeling of everything being overpriced, and it isn't happening. You think it's BS that I wrote Gini multiple times trying to get answers about their product and received ONE response back that didn't even address my questions, but looked like a form response? Only then to write to them again and again and still receive NO response back? Unless you mean BS stands for BAD SYSTEM, then I think you are totally off base. *I* have first hand experience trying to talk to them about a purchase and was totally disappointed by their lack of communication. That does not instill a good feeling of business practice to me.

I purchased stuff from IndiSystem which is WAY cheaper than both CPMFilmTools and Berkely Systems parts, but given I own all of them now, it's clear why it is cheaper. The quality of craftsmanship from both CPM and BS is amazing. EVERY question I have asked them has been answered in usually a day. Any advice I needed or if I was getting something I really didn't need, they told me. They helped me get the things that made sense to what I was trying to do because they actually *know* their equipment they are selling. They actually care about being there for their customers. I feel confident I invested in both quality gear AND a quality company.

I bought the D|Focus like I said, it's cheap. Sure, for the time it worked okay as I had no experience with a follow focus, but now, it's more trouble to me than it's worth. Now, maybe V3 is better than V2, but I'm not taking that risk again. Now, in the end, it will cost me more to get a good professional model because I am already invested in solutions that just don't work as well as I'd like.

Also, which I think needs pointing out AGAIN is that the original shown Zacuto model includes a follow focus AND a EVF. You aren't even comparing similar setups?!?

But it doesn't matter, these are the same things being said over and over. People see value in the products, obviously, and you don't. Just accept the fact that these aren't marketed for you. It's really that simple.

+1

anyone else vote we close this thread?
outside of direct comments from the manufacturers, i dont know what more of value can be added... we have a bunch of people questioning business practices who clearly have no understanding of them.

Rick...if you're gonna rant, at least read the posts first so you can rant about the right things. No wonder no one returns your emails! You probably asked them about your missing underwear order.

I (notice the letter I) didn't compare anything to anything except car, gun and motorcycle parts. I, ( notice that letter again) only said they are over priced because they can and do overprice their items and I mean the entire industry.

By BS...I mean exactly what I'm replying to!

I (one more time) own a CNC as well a smaller mill and lathe, and all the accoutrements that let me make a copy of anything they make, so I am not buying any of it.

Like the comment I made to one of the manufacturers that was bragging about his cages on one of these sites. "Kinda pricy for something I can turn out in 30 minutes". His response "Mine is anodized'.

if company x *engineered* car x, then chinese clone company made clone x from car x.

wouldn't you think that car x would be better engineered, more reliable, more secure, a better product, live longer, need less maintenance, feel better, drive better, smoother, corner better, shift gears better, brakes better, smoother power output, better seats, ac, accessories, better support, better life expectancy,...etc.

but all that is not the main point.

if car x was not engineered, you would not be able to buy clone x.

if company x is not around anymore, the product will only get worse and suffer from more generation loss.

if the company is engineering the product you like, shouldn't you support that company.
