Why are color bars effected by set up?

I had the DVX 100 connected to a waveform to set up some files for an up coming feature. We set up two different files, both in 24a, among other differences one had set up set at 0 the other at 7.5. When we viewed the test footage we noticed that the color bars were effected by the set up. Why would this be?

Re: Why are color bars effected by set up?

When you have the setup turned on (7.5), it adds setup to the video signal going to tape, raising your black level from 0 IRE to 7.5. This will affect both the color bars and any images you shoot with the camera, unlike on higher-end pro cameras where changing the setup to 7.5 simply adds setup to the signal coming from the camera's analog/monitor output.

yes, if colorbars arnt true to your settings on tape, they are pretty useless when the editor/colorist gets them.
