GH2 Why 24-frame video motion will never look like film, and 1/48th doesn't matter.

I'd buy that.

1/40 for the Gh2 is solid

Really, camera has not been a problem for some time now..

L1n3arx and Kholi's posts on here made me go 1/40 a few months back. Like what I am seeing, and have just finished an interview with an author shot at 1/40 with the Takumar 50mm and I love the result.

I have never used 1/40th because much of my shoots involve fluorescent lighting, and at that shutter speed I run into the rolling shutter flicker problem. Whether it's overhead fluorescents, or Kino Flo knock-offs, they only look good at 1/60th so I tend to keep my shutter on that.
Kholi, et. al, are you mostly shooting outdoors, or tungsten? Have you had flicker problems at 1/40th? Curious to know how you solve it.

I shoot all 1/40 thanks to Kholi's mutant eyesight as well. No complaints, great results.

I shoot with flos...no issues.

All. But... What's really funny... I always catch flicker when it's TOO late. Of all the things I can see outright (have you ever seen an Epic image where the right quarter of the frame is shifted an entire single pixel downward from the rest of the image? You probably have, but couldn't see it... I spotted it from like ten feet away on set one day and freaked out)... I cannot immediately see flicker or rolling lights.

And it's probably the most obvious artifact ever...

I imagine you reacting similar to Wilfred Brimley's character in The Thing when he takes the axe to the radio room...

That's actually the funniest part in the movie. THe sound of Kurt Russell punching him three times is hilarious.

Funny you should say that. I got flicker from a shot indoors lit by a huge chandleir. Didn't see it at the time.
But didn't get flicker from LEDs 20 minutes before, or an old blonde that was used same day at 1/40.

Cool that members with names like Fresno Bob are commenting on posts about Kurt Russell and John Carpenter films. :-)
Just watched "The Thing" again last week. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

This is strange because Kino Flo's do 1000hz or so, not 50 or 60. They work totally different than normal fluorescent tubes. I shoot with various low shutter speeds and Kino Flo like lights and never had flicker issues.
Thanks for the interesting thread, I'm gonna try 1/40 too.

Watched Escape from New York on TV again the other day and realized again how great the music is... Also composed by John Carpenter. I must get all his music on CD. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zTxBc_-XxmI
