Whose Booked For 2008?

It was about 140 a night at the Imperial Palace.

The only reason I booked now was because we already have the week cleared, commitments from 2 associates who will be going as well, and we have a babysitter (My wife is my partner, and this is one of 2 trips we take all year). So there was no need to wait.

Last year we payed close to 300 a night at the Hilton, and I wanted to make sure we got a better deal.

Besides, it's only 118 days away.

Why wouldn't Avid be there????

Paraphrasing from a David E. Williams article in the Feb 08 DV Magazine:

Apparently Graham Sharp feels that the money could be spent better at face to face meetings with small groups of users. He says that gives them a better opportunity to get feedback and also to get clients up to speed on the latest upgrades. He also proposes letting the current version/features of Avid sink in for a while so that folks can get a handle on it before they upgrade again.

Which makes me respect them for not following the herd to Vegas, and for not continuing the ever quickening cycle of more/newer/faster. Whether it turns out to be a good strategy, only time will tell.

I'm so freakin excited that I'm going this year! Free suite at Cesar's (oh yeah, I like to gamble), so that's nice, from Sunday til Friday. Gonna be nice. I have actually never been! Yup, very excited.

I've been given permission by work to attend :) Though I have to cover the cost on my own. :(

I'm intrigued by three of the conference options and was curious if anyone who attended last year might recommend one over the others? I realize a bit of it might depend on what you want to learn, so to briefly give my background - I've made one independent feature film & a few shorts and am finishing post production on the feature still.

The three conferences I was considering were:
1. Digital Cinema Summit
2. Digital Tech Guru Workshop
3. Director / Producer Workshop

On the last one my main concern is if it'll be targeted towards existing directors / producers or is it more of a beginner course for folks just starting out?

As for meeting up for dinner or a drink somewhere during the week, yeah I'm down with that.
