whoosh

I'm looking for a bit of Foley to use with some lower thirds. I want a whoosh, then an inverse whoosh like the opening and closing of the doors in the original Star Trek series (only perhaps lower in pitch).

I want to use this to subtly call attention to the lower thirds when I roll them out and then roll them up. Just to dress things up a bit. For an example of this technique, I think ESPN does this a fair amount (disclaimer -- I dropped my cable provider and therefore can't see ESPN any more, so things may have changed in the last year or so).

Sadly, I don't have the talent, training, or equipment to create this on my own so I'm looking to buy it. I'm sure there's the Foley equivalent of buy-out music (royalty free), but I haven't found a source for this kind of sound effect. I'm probably just not looking in the right places.

So... Anyone have any pointers to where I can buy suitable Foley sound effects work?

It's pretty easy to record a bunch of Whooshes, and kind of fun but @$35 the whoosh anthology sounds like a good deal.

You can reverse them in just about any app, I think you can even do it in FCP.

Any basic sound effect library should have enough basic stuff for you to create your own whooshes. I used some great fireballs and windmill whooshes to create the lower thirds on Hell's Kitchen (which they are still using, even though I haven't worked on the show in several years). Having something unique that you've created will sound better than a canned "whoosh" sound that everyone has heard before.

I would second Dave here. The library sound like it's probably got a good palette to work from but you will want to play with, stretch, alter, mix, etc them to make them fit what you need.

It's fun and it sounds better.
