Whoo, I color corrected

Re: Whoo, I color corrected

I like the first work best. I kept playing with the image here either, but I thing that first punchy orange is just great, it seems like a really badass spider...

Anyway, now that Disjecta mentioned it, I won't post my take on it,but perhaps this could lead to an interesting game in another topic... What about a small grading contest?

What about a small grading contest?

YES! That would absolutely rock! It would be very helpful as well for (useful) criticism, tips and experience. Let's do it!

Re: Whoo, I color corrected

Color correcting in any program will always resample your footage. That is what it is doing, by reinterpreting the RGB values of each pixel and then saving them again, IF you want the best quality, export your captured footage to uncompressed AVI and color correct that, then export it again as an uncompressed avi, and do what you will with the footage from there. However, for most things, the regular setup that most NLE's give you will render great results and when done right, will not expose compression artifacts.

Re: Whoo, I color corrected

I also vote for the grading contest. As a newbie I'd love to throw in something to get critiqued.

The first orange one is still the best - just gorgeous...
I think Magic Bullet is the best. But it's slow. And expensive.

Re: Whoo, I color corrected

Depends on what you need to do. Most NLE's come with a fairly comphrehensive set of color correction tools. Magic Bullet is great but it's more of a "color effect" program than a straight color corrector.

Before you spend your money on software, buy a book like this one:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...103-8913937-7224663?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

Study how you can do it with what you have and then, based on understanding the limitations of your own software, consider something additional like Magic Bullet.

Maybe I am wrong. I have started to try to get a lot of my shots "in camera" as apposed to getting them in Editing. I think an interesting test would be to color correct/gradation footage several times and see what effect it has on the clarity of the footage.
That's a good point tr, whenever I have tried to color correct in premiere 6-6.5 my res goes all to hell. I see other peoples color correction work and stand in awe so I know it can be done, but how! ???
