Whoa.

Ok. I'm a very very careful person with my DVX100 (not A), and have used it the best weather conditions imaginable (when it rains, I shoot from my car), but I had alarming things happen the past two days.

First of all, I was shooting an indoor scene (natural light), and the focus locked, making it unable to adjust at all (the number stayed fixed on 95). I shut the camera off, and it worked fine after that.

Last night, I was shooting indoors again, and the focus and zoom locked. I again shut the camera off, and when I turned it back on, the display screen looked like a Brakhage film...the numbers jittered like an interlaced frame, with a black screen and no picture at all.

The camera is working fine as of right now, but what in the hell could be causing these problems? The only thing I can think of is the incredibly humid conditions we've had in the past few days, but the camera didn't shut off itself like you would imagine it doing.

Any ideas? There's no way I can replace this pricey piece of equipment, and no reason why I'd ever consider buying a different model because of the gorgeous images it produces.

Please help! ???

Re: Whoa.

Also, after shooting today, I noticed the hour meter had rolled back from 35 to 1. Perhaps whatever happened resetted the entire camera?

Re: Whoa.

i would bring it straight back. this does not sound like your average problems. sooner or later a chip will ballyhoo on you in a critical shoot.

Re: Whoa.

For $1800, there is no way I can "repair" this camera. As of now, everything is working fine, but the next humid day I shoot? And who's to say that this caused irreparable or that it won't happen again?

I didn't buy a warranty, but that doesn't cover what happened to Dolby and could potentially happen to me again. So what then? My Hi-8 camera as a child never acted so ridiculously!

I hope someone from Panasonic can rise to the occasion and help me.

Re: Whoa.

I can't remember what the USA warranty covers..I believe it is 1 year labor and just 90 days on parts...am I right? Also....has anyone ever had a good experience with a MACK warranty. From what I have heard through a friend that has used them..they keep your camera for weeks on end.

Re: Whoa.

I had the same problem happen to me last week with my ENG camera. As soon as the camera was exposed to the very humid conditions outside it completely shut down. I couldn't even eject my tape. So what I did was take it back to the truck and I turned the AC on and left the camera in the front seat for about 20 minutes. After that, I was able to turn it on, eject my tape to get some air flow inside the camera, and then I was able to use the camera again. So you might want to try that with your DVX. Is it really hot inside your house?

Re: Whoa.

When I shot the film indoors, it was truly unbearable. Not so much hot as terribly humid, as I turned off my fan so I could get clean sound. It cooled down this week and I shot footage both indoors and outdoors fine. I hope no damage has been done.

Re: Whoa.

So I just waited an hour and a half on hold for Panasonic...nothing. Who waits on hold like that...nobody works, apparently.

Is there any way to reach Jan, the DVX-rep directly from Panasonic? Waiting that long for a Panasonic rep (especially when who knows if they might help) is rather irritating.
