Hi,

I think it is important to supply easy to see numbers for Panasonic, so that they can see what sales they loose, when they to not provide the 25p in the GH2.

Please answer the poll

1. I will buy a GH2 anyway.

25p is not important to me as I live in an NTSC country. Are you just polling people in PAL countries? Maybe specify that.

However I can say that if it didn't have 24p I probably wouldn't buy it. Unless it was 1080/60p...certainly not 60i.

From what I've seen discussed so far, the primary atrraction of the GH2 is its ability to shoot in non-interlaced 1080p24 at 24Mbps with a significantly improved AVCHD codec. Since its other video modes are still limited to 17Mbps and don't appear to benefit from any codec improvements, I'd stick with the GH13 for 720p video.

What could change everything is if the GH2's HDMI output is clean enough to enable external recording while shooting (or even just while previewing). That would make codec issues moot.

We yet have to see if a shutter speed of 1/40 allow the GH2 to record true 25p inside the 50i container.

1080p50/60 is the most important thing I would want included, then I would buy the GH2 for sure, now I just don't know.

BTW there's a bias in your poll since the caption talks only about including 25p.

I'm certainly not buying one without 25p.

Frankly, I probably won't get one unless and until it gets hacked (or gets many of the GH13 features through an official update). Things like being PAL/NTSC switchable are very useful for me.

So, Panasonic, if you want to sell more units, help (or at least let) VK hack the GH2.

Right. But if you put too many options in there, the poll does not really say anything.

For me, the 25p seems to me to be the biggest deal breaker for the GH2, followed by the 50p/60p.

I just want to give them an idea, what sales they loose, if the do not implement this.

Just the fact, that you cannot easily mix 1080 material from the GH1 and GH2 does not make sense.
And, as far as I understand Vitaliy, it is only a firmeware adjustment, to make this format available. So it must be very easy for Panasonic, to implement at least the 25p. I do not think they will or can implement the 50p/60p. This will happen for sure in the Gh3.

But I hope the prove me wrong. and that they read and calculate.

Aren't 24p films converted to 25p all the time for EU DVD releases, etc?

Yes it's a 4% speed increase but when your mixing with other 25p footage and trying to sync or needing 25p as your work flow for a million different reasons it's a massive time consuming pain in the ass! Especially when the GH1 did it all along....

I have a GH2 on pre-order via Amazon.com, but I would very much prefer it was able to record native 24p PAL in addition to all its current features, even though I live in NTSC-land.

Why? Because:

- Native 25p PAL will enable Panasonic to sell more GH2 cams worldwide, especially in PAL countries. The more successful the GH2 is, the better for all GH2 users worldwide. More support, more compatible 3rd party products, more price competition, etc.
- Especially now with the internet, it's a global marketplace for shooters. Occasionally I get opportunities to shoot video here for use in PAL-land. If my GH2 could record native 24p PAL it makes my services more valuable.
- Adding native 25p PAL capability to all GH2 cams is probably trivially easy for Panasonic to do. If it were difficult or expensive I'd be less inclined to expect it. But right now it seems like a silly (or worse: stupid) omission on Panasonic's part.

I'm sure there are other good reasons for NTSC-land GH2 users -- really, _all_ users -- to want native 25p PAL added to all GH2 cameras ASAP.

As I wrote in another thread no 25p is a deal breaker for me.
Too bad Panasonic don't want to pass through the avchd limits (they've done it with the tm700, haven't they?)
50/60p would be huge, but at least 25p would be a sale for me, and many people I know.

Even with B frames I'm doubtful if the video quality will be as good as a hacked GH1 (I'm willing to keep an open mind until I test them side by side)...but lack of 25p/50p in a PAL country is, for me, a deal breaker.

GH2 for me for quieter sensor ,and monitoring...if HDMI out no good then Af 100 as well with nano flash for bigger projects ...

Hey if HDMI did work at least you guys could do 25p from that albeit at $1000 more (min) but think of those lovely frames.....

I think it's a mistake that you haven't clarified that this relates to the PAL model of GH1. As it is phrased now people in NTSC markets will vote as well and skew the result.

Agree with this. Especially as the PAL model in Europe has a 30 minute time limit to duck EU taxes on making it a VCR, yet doesn't include a standard PAL frame rate that was included with the GH1 ( If that is actually the case when it's released ).
No 25p, no buyee

Right. Sorry that I did not clarify it for the PAL version.

Regarding the tax for the 30 minutes limit.
If it records more it is regarded a Camcorder an Panasonic has to pay 5%, only 5% !!! more tax. I would be more than willing to pay these 5% more to get a time limit free GH2.

Years before, this had beenj the same with the DV in with the DV camcorder. Through pressure of the customers they offered also some little more expensive versions, that had DV in and they were successful. Why not the same with the 30 minute limit?
