Who pre-ordered the Sony A7S??

Hey guys, just curious who on here pre-ordered the a7s and from whom. I pre-ordered it directly on Sony's online store. I wonder if that will benefit from getting the camera a little earlier :)

I will...as soon as some more examples leak out. I like what I see so far. I just want to see more of it. First impression...I think the 4K images look very nice. 1080P, not so much. I would love to see a few more samples...then I'll pull the trigger.

I did at ZGC. Going to try one out at the Sony event today. Maybe I can sneak in my own SD card and report back.

pre-orderd the day it became available on bandh, but I really don't think stock will be an issue. Until reviewers and users get it :) A lot of folks are weary about Sony and their hand held line, for good reason.

If I might ask, what did you not find adequate about the 1080p mode? With no binning/line skipping, I found the image detail to be on par with canons cinema line. In fact, this is the first device(dslr or large sensor video camera) able to shoot a legitimate full HD image(c100 being the only exception).

Awesome please give us your thoughts after :)

Unfortunately when Sony said A7S prototype they meant an A7 with the 7S label on it. Apparently the real pre-production 7S's are very hard to come by, the rep said there are only about 200 and she'd never seen a real one. A bit disappointing I didnt get to play with a real A7S. Oh well. I hope the shortage of A7S pre-production models isn't an indicator of low yield or design/manufacturing delays.

Trying to find a cage that will have a solid fit on the A7 series cam, any recommendations ?

I am sure that the DR will be nice. On a retina screen, it seems much softer than my C100 or Scarlet. It looked a bit more on par with a 5D3...which I really do not like that look. The 5D3 is famously soft. The C100 is a much sharper camera. So far, the 1080P example of the A7S did not look nearly as sharp on this particular screen. The 4K video is a different story altogether. The 1080P was "okay" but not great. I could just be spoiled shooting on RED a lot and the C100.

Either way...I will probably be an early adopter of the A7s. Its 4K capability in conjunction with its DR and low light is a pretty sweet deal. 8 bit sucks...but its manageable with the other strengths of this little camera.

Pre ordering seems a waste of worry. Sammys or B&H always seems to have stuff available when preorders are sent out. I got my GH4 from Sammys days before it was available from where I preordered it.

I disagree, manufacturers frequently miss targets and underestimate demand... there is no harm preordering from a lot of places since you don't have to pay until it ships. I remember with my GH2, I preordered but it still took 3 months past the release date for them to catch up to demand, and several other cameras/accessories I've preordered have immediately gone out of stock on the release day and stayed backordered for weeks/months. And in a lot of cases, you can preorder a few and worst case if you end up with more than one and they are backordered, you can turn around and sell the extra at a profit to people who don't want to wait in backorder/preorder lines. I believe this happened with my 7Q and my FS700 and probably was the worst with my RED... I think RED has kept me waiting for items I preordered for well over a year if you add them up but they pretty special :P
