White Balance?

Is there a way to dial in a custom WB? For example, 3700K, 4500K, etc.
I checked the manual, couldn't find it.
Thank for any assistance.

Yes,

put the switch on preset instead of A or B

When you hit the white balance button on the front of the camera, one of the presets is 3200 k, one is 5600 k, and one is VAR. On this setting you adjust the function knob upwards or downwards to adjust the kelvin per 100 degrees.

Cheers.

One note on this -- sometimes you can't get it to work, and here's why -- if you currently have the function knob active in its "area" function, then it won't work for the white balance, instead it'll work for driving the area cursor around the screen. To get it to work for white balance again, you hold in the function knob (pressed in like a button) for a couple of seconds. That will cancel the "area" function and let it work as the white balance adjuster again. If you then (after white balancing) want to go back into the area mode, just click the function knob in and it'll work.

Ah, that's helpful. Thanks for that tip Barry. I was trying to figure out a way to do that last night when I was learning the camera. The manual isn't very helpful sometimes. Can you explain the difference between the white and yellow boxes in the area function?

Yellow means that's the area that it's currently using. White is the cursor you're controlling. Think of it like a mouse cursor and where you click -- the yellow is where you clicked, where you selected. THe white is just like your cursor, it just floats over everything and doesn't mean anything until you click it.

Is the feature to track faces with lenses that can communicate with the camera?

That exists in the AF100, but you don't use the function knob for that. The function knob is so you can tell it what area of the screen to concentrate on for focus, or iris, or y-get marker purposes.

Oh, ok I thought it was 2 separate things, which would be cool, and couldn't figure out what it was doing. I set mine to FOCUS/YGET and thought I could get one square to be focus and the other to be IRE level. Now I get it.

Ahh!!! I was wondering how to rid of that cursed little cursor!!! Thanks Barry!
