For all of the in camera settings to achieve different looks (topic under DVX100 - Technical), how do you go about doing the white balance fake with folders, paint samples, etc?

just get your hands on whatever color is needed (the paint palettes from home depot, the envelope ect..) and fill your lens with that color and white balance it as you would with anything white

think of what tint you'll be going for and look for a paint sample that's about the opposite of that in terms of the color, then white balance off of that just as you would normally. so if you white balance off of a folder, chances are that the image will have a blue, cooler look. this is also dependent upon your lighting conditions.

White balancing on different shades of blue will give you warmer (redder) video. Experiment with the different shades to get the effect desired.

White balancing on different shades of green will help you under fluorescent light.

White balancing on different shades of red will give you a cooler (bluer) look.

How you find those colors to experiment on is up to you. The Home Depot idea is an inexpensive one. A "too" expensive one, in my opinion is to buy warm cards.

do you like wasting money or something? haha Home depot is the way to go dude, what do you think those warm cards are anyways? basically a big paint card. my advice is just to make sure you go with the soft colors though and nothing glossy or it wont be as strong of a WB
