White Balance Cards

Does anyone know where I can get those cards that give you different types of white balance settings to make it look warmer? I can't remember what they are called.

Re: White Balance Cards

You can get them from various places, probably filmtools or B&H. But you shouldn't need them. You can do the same thing in-camera with the DVX -- just change the color temp menu setting to -1 or -2, and it'll give everything a nice warm glow. Going to +1 or +2 will introduce a cooling effect.

John,
You made your own in Photoshop? How well do they work? Do you recall what settings you used? i.e. how much RGB or CMYK.

Thanks!

Re: White Balance Cards

I used to make mine all the time, but the great thing about the ones online is that they are lamented. they can get wet, be cleaned, and the lamenate is anti reflective.
It is a shame that you can not just buy the small ones though. As well I recomend the extra .5 card. The green card tends to balance the camera a bit magenta though, so watch out.

Re: White Balance Cards

I just ripped the colors from the site, put into PHOTOSHOP with a huge 8 1/2 X 11 Fill. Now, honestly they wrok as well as you might expect (especially the half and quarter warms) but I dont even use them anymore. I have a $3000.00 Tektronics Printer that prints photographic quality.

I have a HMC UV Sky thats adds a tint of warmth already but I'll manipulate in POST or IN CAMERA if I want to change the image.

Re: White Balance Cards

Seriously, play with the in-camera COLOR TEMP setting. Bumping that one or two ticks in either direction will do the exact same thing as the warm cards, except easier and with less hassle.

And if you want to change color on the green/magenta axis, you can use the COLOR PHASE menu setting to accomplish that.
