Which would you choose?

Hey all...

So I've come accross a bind. I can either get a new hard case & a Used Sennheiser KE60 Shotgun Mic....

OR....
The 16:9 anamorphic adaptor!

For the same price...
which one would you guys go for? I want both just as bad. But I don't plan on going to film anytime soon. However, most the TVs I watch nowadays are huge widescreen TVs with HD capability.

Re: Which would you choose?

I'd get an Xbox. :D

Seriously I go for the 16:9 anamorphic adaptor. The KE60 mic and the hardcase , you can get cheap on ebay or the black market, kidding. Or you can just save your money and wait for the panasonic DVX HD. :)

Eh... I just bought my DVX100a last month... I won't be buying another camera for at least another year or 2.

Re: Which would you choose?

Do you have a mic already? Maybe a mic/boom/cables/blimp or windscreen might prove more valuable then an anamorphic adapter right now.

Re: Which would you choose?

My opinion of cases, especially durable ones, is to always buy it when you need it and not before. When I was a practicing musician, I ended up buying cases for all kinds of stuff I never wound up taking out on the road. That money could have been spent elsewhere when needed.

Obviously, this may not be the case for you. (no pun intended)

Have you ever noticed that when people say no pun intended, they usually intend the pun wholeheartedly? I swear, no pun intended this time.

Re: Which would you choose?

I know what you mean. I've got cool little unnecessary cases for all my crap. There is something about having your stuff in a case and bringing it off the shelf to play with, and re-organize and stuff. Like on rainy days. Same when I was a kid with my GI Joes. But I now have ENOUGH cases!

PS. My wife asked me for Christmas gift ideas the other night. I suggested the Pelican 1510.

Actually, no mic right now. Just the one on the DVX. And I hate it now. Especially after renting the KE60. lol.

Re: Which would you choose?

Get a mic and case. You will probably use them more. Of course only you know that for sure.

Who was it that just had their dvx fall out of a car?

Re: Which would you choose?

It's a tough call. If you aren't doing filmout, then I think Squeeze mode may be good enough while you get acquainted with your gear. Sound is 50% of the experience (some might argue more), so it's important to get high quality sound.

I have the Pelican hard case and rarely use it. I found that the soft case like the Porta Brace DV Organizer was much more useful as it holds all my gear (matte box, mics, batteries, cleaning kits, filters, rods, anamorphic, etc. Good luck.

Re: Which would you choose?

theres alot of mention of this dvxhd is there a new cam in the near future.

Re: Which would you choose?

There have been no announcements. Panasonic has shown a mockup/prototype of a small 3-CCD DVCPRO-HD camera at some trade shows, but there are no specs, we don't know if it would be a successor to the DVX or more of a DVC30-type camera or anything. So no, no announcements, no acknowledgements, just typical internet rumor-mongering like we all enjoy engaging in! :)

Re: Which would you choose?

Are you asking if good sound is more important then resolution. I guess the answer is quite obvious but in any case: YES.
