Sorry for asking this... but I have a quick call for a job Monday and not sure what camera to bring. We are shooting to tape in 4:3 Standard Definition 30P.

What camera has the better image at this format, DVX or HVX?

Thanks!

In 4:3 30P they're going to be quite close. I'd still vote for the HVX unless you need the extra sensitivity (DVX is a stop faster).

In 4:3 60i the DVX wins, but in 30P the HVX may do a better job.

Thanks Barry. O.K. Here is a retarded question:

HVX with DVCPRO50 or DVX with DV. Both at 30P 4:3. Lightyears apart?

No, but a good fifty yards apart... :)

HVX in DV50 and 16:9, vs. DVX in DV/squeeze? Yeah, that one's about a lightyear apart. But both in 4:3... the HVX will be noticeably better, but not night and day.

HVX will have a stop more dynamic range, it'll have less visible noise at adequate exposure, and it'll have twice the color resolution and less compression. But the DVX will be a stop faster and basically is gonna look fine.
