Which tripods will likely be compatible with the HVX?

This question is directed at anyone with any helpful information, but especially Jan Crittenden Livingston (or Barry Green if he got any more info. since our last correspondence).

I ask because last summer I shelled out almost a grand for a Sachtler DV 2 II/2 and was wondering if I'd likely have to shop for, or rent another tripod if I acquired or rented an HVX in the future.

Thanks in advance for all your awesome help!

Any tripod that supports 5lbs. and has a 1/4-20 screw will work with this camera. The larger tripods with a 3/8" screw will not work unless you modify the underneath side of the camera, which of course is never recommended. I have considered modifying the underneath side of the rods baseplate to work with a larger tripod but then discovered it would be too lightweight to counter balance properly.

Suffice to say, your existing tripod should work fine so long as it can handle the weight okay.

So I assume this means that the HVX200 weighs under 5 #'s ? I read the article giving all the specs but it didn't mention the weight.

Thanks!

The DVX weighs 4.5lbs by itself. The HVX is slightly bigger, so yes, it most likley will weigh around 5 or 6 Lbs. I'm sure your Sachtler will be able to handle it fine.
