I was interested in buying a 70-200mm 2.8 for my 5d. It will be used for filmaking and not stills so i guess i wouldnt need is. Which one do you guys prefer? canon, tamron, sigma or any other good zooms would be helpful.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

If you can afford the 70-200 f/2.8 Canon L that's the one to get - if you're willing to look at used lenses, the older Canon 80-200 f/2.8 L can be found on eBay in the $700 range and some (me included) think it's slightly sharper than the modern 70-200mm version due to a rear floating element that the newer lenses don't have.

Well im mostly shooting in the woods at night so the f4 wouldnt be of any use. Ive been having some success with the 24-70 2.8 i also have 4 dps to light up the forest though. I wanted something on the telephoto end ill have to find a deal i guess on the 70-to 200mm. Thanks for all your responses!

re: your ebay link.

This is indeed the lens. It does say "L" on it - but I don't think you can see it in the photos on the eBay auction. It reads "Canon Zoom Lens EF 80-200mm 1:2.8 L. It's absolutely full-frame for the 5D, this lens was one of the first L series lenses in the Canon EOS lineup back in the film days, so no worries there!
