Which Tapes for HVX200E

Hi All,

I have just a silly question: Which DV Tapes are best for the HVX200E?
I guess if the Sony DVCAM tapes can be used, considering the differences between the Sony and the Panasonic DV recording Solution.
Even the consumer DV tapes maybe can't be used.....
THANKS IN ADVANCE

The Mini-DV tapes that are usually recommended for the HVX200 are:
Panasonic AY-DVM63AMQ

The cheaper alternative (I had occasional drop-outs on these):
Panasonic AY-DVM63PQ

They are not DV or DVCAM, but Mini-DV.

I think that more important than which tape is that once you've chosen which tape stock you should then stick with it and not let any other tape in the camera.

Different brands of tape use different lubricants on the tape surface. If you are switching between tape brands you are mixing up the different lubricants (on a very small scale.) The mix of lubricants can slowly build up on the tape heads and is quite often a source of tape drop outs.

I agree with Milezee.
I have only used the Panasonic AY-DVM63AMQ.
Just for the reason he gave.
I have nothing to compare them with because I use no other.

Kind regards
THE HONEST LIAR

Ok Guys,

So I 've maked a big mistake. I'm using th AY-DVM63MQ usually, but I've put Mini DV from other companies. Any problems?
Thanks a lot Paul

No, that shouldn't be a problem. Years ago there were issues with mixing different brands of tapes because some manufacturers used dry lubricants, and others wet lubricants. This resulted in head clogging as the different lubricants gummed up, but this is not really an issue anymore since the lubricants have been reformulated.

Even without the clogging concern, I would still stick with one brand of high quality tape.

The supplier of my hvx202E suggested using JVC ProHD tapes.

They seem OK - but was this good advise??

Should I switch to the Panasonic AY-DVM63AMQ when I need a new box?
