....when talking to Panasonic VP he suggested to use PANASONIC PRO tapes.[/quote]
I have noticed shopping around, that the AY-DVM63PQ (Pro) tapes are about $4-6 and the AY-DVM63MQ (Master) are about $5-7, which leads me to believe that the Master is somehow a better tape. Is this true? Panny offers both on their website, but without explanation, so I'm left guessing.
Well, to each his own, I guess. But I think it's outrageous to be worried about "the cost" when we're talking a buck a tape... someone spends $3400 on a camera and then tries to save a dollar per tape? Doesn't make sense.
Use the very best tape you can. MQ's are the best tape available, and EVS sells 'em for $5.65 each... can't be beat.
By far, I sell the MQ tape more than any other MiniDV tape for the DVX. I always recommend it too, with any DVX camera purchase. I explain it just like the pro's on this site do: It's not worth saving a dollar, when this little tape has the equivalent footage of a film mag. All DVXusers get 50+ pricing on MQ tapes. You can always buy 5 tapes from us for the 50+ price. ;D
I've being using the Sony "DVM-60EXM 60 Minutes Excellence with Memory Chip Mini DV Video Cassette" and until now I have no complaints. The price is higher, tough.
"Sony delivers 60 minutes of digital video excellence with its DVM-60EXML Digital Video Cassette. Featuring a built-in 4k bit IC memory chip that allows you to index or bookmark your video within the camcorder environment."
pretty cool little addition to a dv tape! must only interface with sony cams.
but of course the dvx lets you do this without a memory chip anyway by using the "index" function. you could probably switch to the excellence without the chip if they make it, and spend a little less though.
