Which stocklens has prevailed?

Hey guys,
still in the boat for a shoulder cam, still looking at the 500.
(Was hoping for an update like with the 200a but...)
So since it has been out for quite some time now, I was wondering which stocklens is being used the most.
Obviously I´m looking mostly at the normal Fujinon, being the cheapest option besides getting a used SD lens...

Just fire away and if you have, please link to some footage with your lens of choice!

Thanks!

For HD, I don't think that there is any question that the bottom end Fujinon & Canon lenses with CAC have prevailed. They are nice lenses, although a ton of breathing, but the image looks great on either one of them.

Personally, I use a Canon 15x8 with an extender (SD). Looks great to me.

For a long time, I used 14x9.5 External focus lenses that cost me $100 and they looked fine.

Here is some sample footage with the old lenses:

Thanks for the insight!
Your cllp looked good, although the highlights were almost cliping - is this straight from the cam or did you push it in post?
I would be tempted to go with a used SD wideangle, but buying used would only be an option, when included in a camera package from some Panasonic reseller...

Well, waste whatever money you would like to waste! :2vrolijk_08: There's really no reason to go buy a new SD lens at this point. You can get such a nice lens for so cheap now.

As far as the video clipping, the guys face was so shiney, it's all we could do to keep everything else from being so dark. One take.

If you look at some of my other videos on Vimeo, the rest of them were all shot with SD lenses too.

Been there, done that too :cheesy:

And I wouldn´t buy a new SD lens, only considering the stock HD Fujinon with CAC...

I was offered a YJj 8x9 b4 krs sx12 Canon for 250 bucks but I guess it´s way to long for my needs, I´d like a wideangle...

Nothing says cutting edge like purple flare. You sir, are a marketing guru.

Noel, I was shooting fully extended with the doubler on from 50 yards or so back (if that's what you meant?)

Either way, I love the range, but I may end up sending it back.

No the opposite. Sorry, my bad, wasnt paying attention. But if youre getting it on the long end, most likely be the whole way through.

I agree a lot with kit Hannah on using SD lenses, but the more I shoot with the HD over the SD lens the more I see it's way dominant over the SD lens. I have a new HD 16x lens and 12x wide angle SD lens and often use them side by side but I really do see the diifferance The CAC is absolutely a must. In commercials or shorts, color aberation is bad. But have to say that it all depends on you workflow and clients offcourse wether you need HD or sd lenses.

Yeah Dolph,
You should see an improvement with the HD glass. My buddy Adam runs a 500 with the Canon CAC lens and if you are viewing them both side by side, the HD glass looks slightly better. Depending on what SD glass you're using, your image will vary greatly. My whole point the SD lens sticky thread is that 500 users can easily "get away" with using SD glass. Especially when most people's final delivery format is still DVD or the web.

It all depends on what you're doing and how you're doing it. I have never really had a problem with CA on any of the lenses I have used on my camera. Maybe it has something to do with my settings, maybe the lenses I use just really aren't that wide or that telephoto, but everything has been peaches for me.

I took the zoom motor off of my Fujinon lens and discovered that CAC won't work without it. But I prefer using my Aaton grip and not having that bulge on the side of the lens, and since I like manual zoom and iris (too many years shooting 16 - old dog), I left it off.

Funny thing is, after reading many posts about how fantastic the CAC is with these lenses, I'm not really seeing a huge difference without it. A few moths ago I shot tests at full telephoto and mid range where CA is supposed to be the worst, and in side by side comparisons I'm actually seeing some resolution improvement in a few of the tests without CAC. Maybe it's just that I've learned to accept a certain amount of color shift after all those Angenieux 12-120 9.5-95 and 9.5-57 lenses I've owned.

Now, I know many are going to jump in and argue based on the tests Barry and others have conducted, but all I'm saying is that it doesn't seem to be the day and night difference that some think it is.
