Which steady cam was used in this film?

I'm shooting with the HVX200 and here is a clip from my film. Can you guess which steady cam I am using? I'm having to run along side of my actor. The clip has no cuts and it runs for almost 3 minutes.

who cares? if it works. thats all that matters.

i think a better question is what kind of mattebox/filter youre using that shows your lens in the reflection...?

Yeah, I am thinking your steadicam was your arm! :) Not very steady. You can tell from the jerky movements OR your steadicam is set up wrong and your weight balancing is off. When balanced correctly, it's actually hard to get jerky movements because of the moment of the weights.

Not that you asked, but the reflections from the filters is pretty bad, also, I can hear your mic or you hitting the camera causing bursts of noise near the end. In addition, your music just cutting out to nothing with no fade was pretty abrupt.

But hey, look at the bright side, with just one long take, at least the editing is easier :)

It was my arm/hand/shoulder. It was one of those last minute thoughts and I told my actor to run and I would follow him. It was very good exercise. Shot that without filters or matte box. I think the noise at the end was me getting ready to pass out lol. This was just raw footage that I added music to.

Haha, well sounds like you need a steadicam and at least a lens hood :) Although given the steadicam adds more weight, unless you are using a vest, you might get tired sooner! :)

I actually work out the muscles I use with my blackbird stabilizer at the gym so I can shoot for long periods of time.

I would love to have a good steadcam :-) I would want to see if there was a class that one can take to really learn how to use it right. I'm not one of those that can sit down and read the book I preferred someone showing me.

I use the redrock matte box and gear but that was way to heavy to run with when I did that shot so I undress the camera and went for it. I would have pass out within the first 30 seconds if I had the RR hook up.

Haha, I understand! That's why I do use some screw on hoods as well as they are plastic and light and get the job done.

Manual is pretty useless for steadicam rigs beyond setting it up right. The rest of it just takes practice practice practice. It's very hard to describe how to move right with them, but once you get started, man, I can't put mine down. It makes such smooth footage.
