which steadicam

Re: which steadicam

hello ;D
dont mean to but in on your post but i just built a steady cam for about $350 from cody deegans design. i just finnished the arm and working on vest and gimble to make the rig complete.  i have seen what it can do and would like to share it with you guys.  here is the link to his site http://www.codydeegan.com/

i will try to get some test video up as soon as i finnish the rig.  i have yet to see it with the dvx, which i have.  hope this helps ;D

P.S. The price is not including the Sled becuase i already had one. this is also my friend building it so a cheap charge for me. ;) also my friend gets a discount at Ace hardware. still only saved me about $150. that is still a better price than i have seen for any other steady cam :)

Re: which steadicam

i just checked out the book and stabilizer sight. I got into building my own rigs for myself but have not seen anything close to what you built...and for $350. My homebuilt stabilizer was $50 and is just a copy of a glidecam 4000 system. No vest, arm or anything. Anyways for those who are looking for an inexpensive alternative that can handle a DIY project (hope this is relating to the thread) then check that site out. Ill be purchasing the book soon.

Re: which steadicam

Thanks Davethedog for the great post on the Magiqcam!!!! I've been waiting for over a month for mine and can't wait for it to get here. Then I'll just have to learn how to use it...I guess I should learn to use the DVX first. ;D

thanks again,

Jason

Re: which steadicam

WOW what great job. I was hoping someone would build the steady cam for cody book. I ordered the book and I can't wait to get started. I trie to spread my money around to buy what I need and save when I can. I am a hands on person and when it comes to home build projects I'm all for it. My only concern whan it come to home build projects is how it looks. Your steadycam arm looks great and when you have the money to complete the vest It will be better. Great job.

Re: which steadicam

Regarding the Magiqcam, IMHO it easily beats the Steadicam mini. I've used both, and now own the Magiqcam. The big difference between them is the arm, which feels much more solid with dual springs vs single on the mini. The mini's arm reminded me of the arm on a desktop table lamp  ;).

Anyway, the Magiqcam is not perfect either, but for the money it's a damn good rig. If going for Steadicam (the brand), I'd skip the mini and instead go for the flyer which seems to be a good choice. Still alot more than the Magiqcam though.

edit: a little bit of everything  ;)

Re: which steadicam

Just got a picture from glidecam:

This is Smooth Shooter used with 2000 Pro. What do you think. Looks promising to me...

// the cost is $1,499.00 for an arm and vest
// full fig (with 4000 Pro) - $1,988.00
