WHICH sound do you prefer ? mic1, mic2, mic 3

In this particular instance and in my opinion, Mic 2 is the winner. Clarity with decent LMF balance. Acceptable isolation from room reflections

- Mic 1 picks up more of the room reflections. Some LF rumble is also audible on my sub woofer.

- Mic 3 sounds muffled.

I checked on three speaker sets

Three different mics with three different applications, so what are we supposed to derive?

What are the response patterns on the first two? Is one an omni, one a hypercardioid? One a cardioid and one a hypercardioid? One of them a shotgun?

Are they placed at the same height, angle, and distance? Was one farther away?

As for the lav, it sounds like a cheaper lav. Like Rick, I think it sounds muffled. Even though it wasn't buried under wardrobe, it sounded like it was. But why include this against the other two? A lav is always going to sound different than a boomed mic, and really isn't valid for comparison with anything but other lavs.

If your purpose here was to demonstrate the only three mics you have at your disposal, and to figure out which one sounds best, then I refer to my first questions about response patterns and mic placement.

Mic one is slightly left and sound like a mix of two mics.

Mic two is the best and sounds fine.

Mic Three is muffled and not as good.

Mic two is the winner, though with some EQ, I would probably work with mic three if other actors/talent are mic'd up with lavs.

The mic 1 is the sony mic that comes with the camcorder SONY HXR-NX30.

yes mic 2 sounds the best (its oktava mk012 plugged in my camcorder) it is well suited for an indoor speaker.

Mic 3 is the rode lavalier (plugged in my camcorder) and it sounds really flat and muffled.

FOr the setting i have (a speaker in front of the cam), i guess the mic 2 is an update over the mic 1. (the mic 3 is out of the question since its muffled and flat i dont know why)

Is the mic 1 is acceptable? People here seems to see a noticeable difference between mic 1 and 2, so the mic 2 is the winner.

Think it worth it to keep the mic 2 and use it for these kinds of settings.
Mic 1 would be more for capturing the ambiant sound?

The Rode lavaliere sounds great when used properly. Since you did not revel HOW or WHERE you were using it, we must assume that you were doing something wrong.

the rode was plugged in the camcorder via xlr. If you see in the video, you will see that the lavalier was at the right place i think, isnt it?

the rode was at the right place if you see the video. The rode was plugged in my camcorder via xlr just like i did with the 2 other mics. I dont get what went wrong.

Again, I question the placement. So, was the first mic, the stock shotgun that came with the camcorder, sitting atop the camera? That's what it sounds like to me. If that's the case, then there is absolutely no way to make any kind of accurate judgment on that mic by itself, much less in comparison to a completely different mic that is properly placed. It is a fundamental principle of sound that on-camera is the worst and last place for a mic where clear dialog recording is concerned.

While the stock shotguns that come with camcorders generally are not the best, mic placement is the most important aspect of any mic. And this is not the first of these comparisons you have posted where one or more of the mics were improperly placed. Get that mic off the camera and boom it close and overhead like you did the Oktava, and then listen to see which one sounds better to you. Perhaps you'll reach the same conclusion, but at least it will be based on more accurate data.

It looks to me like your headphone cable was pulling the capsule back toward your fleece. That may have had an adverse affect on the signal.

It looked like that large (sound-absorbing) collar was laying over the top of the microphone). If you are attempting to achieve quality results, you can't be that casual about microphone placement. Notice that there are probably 10,000 similar lavs being used by news people live on-air even as you are reading this sentence.
