Which software is best to recover accidentally deleted P2 media / .MXF off HD?

We have another one.

I am using fcp 5.4.1 on a mac.
This morning, while I was "removing" imported files from the main Log and Transfer window, I accidentally deleted the .mxf files from my external hard drive. (One 16gb card.)

I know this has happened numerous times before to others.

I have been researching, and have found people have used:
Data Rescue (#)
Stellar Phoenix
Boomerang
File Salvage
among others.
(Then Raylight, etc.)

I read some pretty scary reviews about some of the softwares.
How people see the files on the list, pay to recover, then the mxf files that were recovered were pretty much unusable.
I was wondering if any of the softwares work better than the others in recovering .MXF files?

Aside from this disaster, the drive has been unused since the MXF files have been saved to it.
The deletion happened this morning and I have been trying to recover since.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Long shot - but does Mac have a "recycle bin" as Windows does?

If so - your files might - just might - be in there.

Other than that any software that can recover deleted files will all perform the same - it's not a "technical" issue that one product could outdo another on. When a file is deleted the filename is marked as deleted and the space the file occupied becomes available to new files.

So from that point on to when you actually write a new file on the hard drive the deleted files can be recovered by simply reversing that process (via software).

Problem you have is when you install any new software to undo the damage - that program will in itself be written to your hard drive and actually (potentially) overwrite the files you are trying to recover.

Thanks for the response!

Is that true even if the drive in question is an external drive and the software would be installed on the internal drive?

Am I still @ risk of overwriting the "deleted" files?

Sorry - my mistake missed that point - your external is safe from further damage when installing software on your system drive.

Some of the DVFilm products are effective at reconstructing the P2 file structure, generating Audio, XML folders and the like. This only works if you have the Video MXF files available. Raylight or MXFX will not help in recovering deleted video MXF files, however.

Hey any one have answers to the above question as well. I just recovered some MXF files on my PC through UNDELETE PLUS. All the MXF files were on an external hard drive. Sadly even though it shows roughly the same gigs 24 none of the files are able to play or recognizable in RAYLIGHT MXFX or AVID. Any other recommendations or software recommendations for MXF file recoverry. This is kinda inportant. Its for a client and they lost the original drive.

thanx,
Omar
