Which remote follow focus?

Kris here,

The REV and the HoFo are very different systems with slightly different target markets (i.e., the REV auto-calibrates, supports large Cinema lenses, multiple motors, adjustable motor response, 3D, USB PC control, updatable firmware, etc.). It delivers top-end performance at a breakthrough price. Based on customer feedback the next revision of the controller is custom machined aluminium (aesthetic reasons really), so when we re-open orders it will be for the alu version (same price). Existing customers can have their controller re-housed for the cost of shipping.

Due to demand we will also be launching a more simple unit, using very similar components to other servo-based systems, shipping from stock in around 4 weeks for £499 (approx USD$740). All aluminium, 2.4GHz.

Thanks Kris and Jamie. I think that a cable conection without wireless can be a good idea. Is it possible in the new controller re-housed?

Thanks for your reply i apreciate it so much!.

I'm blown away at how even in today's internet age of information and public opinion, people can still be so haphazard with their words. Especially business people. Case in point:

After my post on the crappy REV (sorry, that's just what it is - read and my earlier post and see for yourself) we received, I got an email from the owners of the company:

"This unit is one of the few units that were assembled without PCBs (printed circuit boards)-- we had a delay with production, and we had a number of "hand assembled" development versions that we decided to ship, as they were functionally "final" and performed well through development."

However, clearly contradictory to what they said in the email, they posted the following on this thread:

"This is clearly a development prototype, and should not have been sent out to a paying customer. A local company was handling the final assembly of the first batch, and I'm furious that a development unit made its way into a shipment."

HUH. Curious, ain't it? To their credit they have offered to replace the broken crappy one we used but seeing as how they blatantly lied to everyone on this forum, they have lost all credibility to me as a company and as business persons.

I'm sure that the unit we received was a mistake (obviously) but the way they handled the matter subsequent to my post is rather annoying. And for them to throw their competitor (HOFO) under the bus is really pathetic. I guess they didn't read the posts on this thread where people actually liked the HOFO units. And I've seen the new prototype HOFO motor...super nice and deathly quiet.

If they had posted on this thread what they had emailed to me, then that would have been the end of the matter for me. But, alas...good luck RTMotion.

Jeez, I'd encourage you or your friend to get in touch with us directly, there is some confusion here, please give me a call or private email!

For the sake of the forum- We had a brief conversation here some weeks back about the feasibility of shipping a small # of hand-assembled units because an assembly batch was waiting on a PCB delivery-- it was decided 'against' doing that for a lot of reasons, so when I saw the unit pictured I assumed that Jamie must have changed his mind and authorised it. Simply put, sorry for the mistake. We're all filmmakers here (myself a producer/DP, Jamie a former gaffer, Steadicam op). Me and Jamie are new to the business side of things and people do make mistakes but we're very proud of the performance of the system and the feedback we're getting. As for the Hofo- it's great to see another British company doing well, and there's room in the market for all of us!

Rtmotion Review

Hi Everyone,

Some strong opinions are quite clearly being expressed here! Would anyone who currently uses the RTmotion (release version) be willing to do a review? It would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Review

Hi,

Has anyone got any practical experience with the RTmotion REV? What I mean by that is how does the unit perform rather than look? A really quick review/opinion on motor sound, responsiveness, range etc... would be very much appreciated!

Cheers!
