Which Pelican case do you use?

I've got my heart set on Pelican. I have a 1550 (with foam) for my DVX, and it fits perfectly.
According to their respective manuals, the DVX is 5 1/2 inches wide, and the HVX is 6 5/8 wide. I don't see the HVX fitting in the 1550 without a good squeeze, but after searching here it seems a few of you are using it! So either my estimate is wrong, or the dimensions are wrong... or... or I'm right, and you guys are squeezing it.
Can you confirm the fit of the 1550 with foam inserts?
Or recommend a different size Pelican case?

A search for Pelican 1550 in the hardware forum will give you a number of threads on this topic that you can look through.

I bought a 1610 with the idea of having enough room for the Cineporter when it arrives.

I use the pelican 1610, its big enough for the HVX with zacuto rails, room for 7" monitor, matte box, mics and a bunch of accessories. Pretty heavy but all your stuff is in one place and its got wheels.

1510 (desert tan). Don't use the wheels a whole lot since I'm afraid going over bumps will jar something loose, but it's nice to know it's carry-on friendly.

I fit the HVX with lens hood, but I remove the viewfinder eye cup. Accessories in the case include 2 P2 Cards, 2 batteries, power supply, shotgun mic, and Century Optics Telephoto Adapter Lens. I don't know if I'm comprimising the foam integrity but fitting that many accesories in the with the camera. Time will tell.

i use the 1650, just because:
1. it has room for my camera, batteries, mics, monitor, etc, etc, etc...
2. it has wheels and i travel a LOT with my camera

and i have tossed that baby around and it never whimpers a bit!

I know you said you have your heart set on Pelican, but... check out the Storm cases. They're basically the same with a few nice little improvements.

I have the im2500 and got it over the 1510 bc it is a little lighter, three layers of foam instead of 2 (less shallow for extras) and the handle is a little sturdier. I will say that with the 1510 and im2500 the camera goes through all layers to the bottom matt that is only 1/4 inch thick. Just and fyi, but both airline approved.

1560 fits my DVX, a Nikon D100 w 2 lenses, my Canon Optura 40, 3 batteries, and has room to spare. It kicks ass IMHO. I believe the 1560 (which is newish) is the largest of the "medium" form factor cases. It's got the wheels and handle though which is very nice.

i used the 1550 for my DVX and made the camera space that extra bigger for the HVX.... fits in fine, but it does depend on what configuration you had it before... I was lucky I left heaps of room between spaces. Take in mind I've only made room for the camera, battery charger, two batteries, remote and 2 P2 cards... I carry around a tamrac backpack with everything else (including laptop )

Here is my 1650.

Use the 1510, solely for the fact that it can be used as a carry -on in an airline, will not let my HVX to be trashed by airline baggage handlers.

I think I have the 1650 too. It's gynormous! But I'm able to get everything in there --- my M2 stuff (lenses included), my matte box, Marshall monitor, follow focus, whip, batteries for everything, cables --- everything needed to run the camera. It is ridiculously big though.
