Which one is better?

I recommend that you steer clear of the hd100 until JVC brings it up to par with the other cameras out on the market. It looks cool, but I'd rather my footage look cool.

For many people it has been one headache after another. There are a couple dozen users on the forums who swear by the camera. However, the bottom line is if you can demo each of you camera options for a few days with extensive use and testing. It will help you make a truly informed decision. There were way too many hd100 users disapointed with the cameras woes, not to mention JVC not addressing the issues sooner. I don't know if they can be trusted. I am one of the few who was able to get a refund. My money is on you ending up with a panny, canon or sony.
4:1 odds-any takers?

Good luck in your search and purchase.

Absolutely. I used to think as Huiy did; my HD100 was not up to snuff. But I've used two recently, and am very much more impressed.

Huiy, if you really liked the HD100 you may want to look at it again.

Do you have a NLE system set up already? Just so you know, FCP doesn't support 720p (24). So, if that's what you have then I would go with the HVX.

I did not realize this and I'm just about to change to Final Cut as my editor---What good are any of these cameras if we don't have an NLE that works and works well.

I wouldn't factor in NLE support when buying any new camera because all of the NLEs will support the new formats shortly, probably by NAB06.

Until then, there are functional work-arounds on both PC and Mac.

@PC_side, you have Premiere where it's possible to work with the stronger more effective & powerful David* Newman's Cineform codec.

See it around this, too:

Yes,
That is the level headed responce and the correct responce.
I'm just trying to figure out the dollars I'm going to spend and how I can save on the NLE I choose. It's kind of hard to figure a budget at this time.

Yeah!...mostly if you don't (yet) make the choice what it will be the best cam/acquisition codec deal to you, like me.

Do you mean, "FCP doesn't support HDV in 720p24"? 'Cause it does support DVCProHD 720p24...

Okay, everyone needs to relax on this issue. JVC is working with Apple and I think you'll see support for everything. In the meantime there is an $80 software option that let's you convert the JVC HDV to ANYTHING that QuickTime supports. QuickTime supports damn near everything...
