GH2 Which ONE GH3 new feature/spec is most important

I thought about doing a poll, there are so many new features. So....

Which ONE new feature or spec on the GH3 do you think will be the most important?

For me, it's probably the WiFi connection and the ability to control via App (hopefully including 3rd party Apps).

Oh.... and we still need a GH3 prefix in this forum! (Hope it isn't as hard to get a GH3 prefix here as it will be to get a GH3 in my hands!)

For me it was the solid weatherproof body. The stock reliable high bitrate modes were just icing on the cake. I'm looking forward to the possibilities of wifi and tablet control/monitoring but for right now I don't think the support is there. I still have hope of a firmware focus peaking or an app to enable focus peaking on your iphone/Android.

I got one on pre-order. Waiting to hear the timeframe here in Canada. I'm hoping end of Nov. early Dec.

When they say weatherproof, how weatherproof is it? Would a person dare to take it out on a normal rainy day and film for few minutes under all those drops?

You could probably get away with it. Torential pour... not so much.

I've gotten caught in the rain with my GH2 and it survived. The GH3 is built so much more solid.

I'm excited to try out 60p @ 1080. Also looking foreward to seeing what the true DR is, those are the two for me, and of course I can't forget out of the box high bit rate.

Here's a question. With a hacked gh2 (flow-bad-ass-motion 2) Will we see a big difference between 720 60p hack. And 1080 60p non hack in terms of image quality. I get that were getting higher res and all with the later, but how noticable will it be.

1: The headphone jack. This will make it more possible/likely that people can ditch their external audio recorders.
2: The wifi, depending on what happens in the app arena. The remote monitoring will probably already be a super sweet feature, and so will the remote shutter if it allows for timelapse through the app for example, but if it eventually becomes possible to follow focus from a smartphone/tablet, that will be killer. If it somehow becomes open (hacked? is it protected anyway? I'm guessing so.) so that app writers can come up with their own creative features, we may see some amazing stuff happen.
3: Larger battery capacity and battery grip.
4: Body (weatherproofing/magnesium/improved handling).
5: Higher stock bitrates.
6: HDMI output, if it's done right. And if it's done excellent, this could move up a couple of notches in importance.
7: Image Quality from sensor and processor. Yet to be widely confirmed how much better this will be.

That's what I can think of right now, and I'm probably forgetting some stuff, and I may have some items in the wrong order, or that could change in order when we get to use it.

For me it will be the lower noise and less banding in low light if indeed that proves to be true. Which from the Genesis short, looks to be the case.

Audio!

It is actually possible to now pump pretty good audio into the GH3 control the levels and listen with a set of cans.

Not perfect yet but a massive step in the right direction. Anybody who has ever wanted to feed board audio into their camera at a concert or do their own event video work will find this a feature to upgrade alone.

Of course the GH1 and GH2 could always be adapted to feed 3.5mm audio but it was really a Hail Mary situation where you crossed your fingers and hoped it turned out.

Oh man... yes... not only that but I can't count the times I turned off my Rode VMP and still saw the meters bouncing on the GH2 not realizing I wasn't recording audio at all! That wouldn't happen with cans on.

OMG!!! Almost forgot a huge one. I pray that when you hit record, the god forsaken color doesn't shift. Thats gotta be the biggest flaw with any camera I have ever used.

Ergonomics/buttons.

Yes the 1080P is awesome, battery grip, etc...but looking at the back panel, dedicated buttons on top, it really looks like a serious thing now :)

My personal top 5:

1. Audio monitoring
2. Improved sensitivity and range
3. Internal high bitrates
4. Timecode
5. Weather resistance (I think I learned this in the rain today :( )

Clean, recordable HDMI output.

They say it's only 8 bit, 4:2:0 (drat it all!!), but if you can bypass the internal compression step altogether... there should be no need for a bitrate hack. Unless VK and Co. can find some other good tweaks that can be performed to increase its performance.

Oh, and the camera's time code sync must be linkable to outside time code compatible devices.

From Andrew Reid:

"In version 0.4 some of the quirks of the GH2 are still present, and I will put my full list of these to Panasonic’s people tomorrow. Some may be fixable before the November shipping date. There’s still a gamma shift resulting in crushed shadows on the live view display when you hit record."

As he states quite firmly, early prerelease software....

Yeah that one really pisses me off, like how does that even pass quality assurance?

One thing I really liked when I saw the specs was a normal 1/8" audio input, which is now separate from the remote jack. That allows me to attach the camera to a rig with a remote for start/stop, and use a superior external mic. With the GH2, it was one or the other but not both (a very stupid design flaw, in my view).

For me it will be the improvement in codec/sensor, which should hopefully cure the banding issue. We'll see. Audio, TC, custom buttons etc. should mean it will be more of a pleasure to use. Weather sealing is a big plus for me too.
