which of these is a better lense for video? there in my price range, i want a sharp image like the tamron 17-50mm f/2.8....

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/622389-REG/Sigma_861101_18_50mm_f_2_8_4_5_DC_OS.html

also i just purchased a used tamron lense...heres the specs

tamron 185d
28-300mm
f/3.5-6.3
auto focus/ manual focus

there is no image stabilization so anything over 200mm is shaky in video and while taking pictures....whats the best way around this?

thanks

EDIT:this would have been a better choice than the tamron 185d right?

and even tho the lense is 58mm does this mean anything considering my other lenses are 72mm?

Also will follow focus make the video smoother with the tamron 185d lense that doesnt have image stabilization?

just spend the extra and get the tamron 17-50 2.8, those other lenses are kinda janky.

I got mine on ebay for like $260 shipped

No. I don't think that you know what a follow focus really is. A follow focus is a device used for adjusting the focus while recording. Its main advantage is that it allows focus adjustments to be made without gripping the lens barrel with your hand.

Use a tripod or monopod.

You must be referring to the filter diameter. It means that you'll have to use a step-up ring in order to use the screw-in filters for your other lenses.

can video be shot on 300mm with no image stabilization?

also what is the sharpest wide angle lense for the 7d and the sharpest zoom-telephono?

i just bought this lense due to the great price....however, its very wide but it has a weird focus ring...

the focus ring is on the tip of the lense and when i move it, it makes a gear noise...even when auto focus is off...

also this ring tip is 58mm, yet some of the 18mm lenses have 68mm wouldnt that affect quality? i mean smaller tip means less glass?

also this lense i bought says its only 1 layer aspherical whats that?

thanks

No offense but that lens is crap.
I got it when I purchased my T2i kit (because the body only wasn't available).

I went out right away and picked up a Canon 50mm 1,8 (prime lens), which is ok for specialty video and photo work. But I also picked up a Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC lens which I love. The glass is pretty fast and the AF and IS is very good on it as well.

My next lens will be a Sigma 30mm 1.4 or Sigma 24mm 1.8 and then I'll look into a long telephoto like the 70-200mm Canon.

Craven, the best means getting out your wallet.

Look for any Canon lens that has an "L" associated with it. That should be best enough for video.

I have heard good things about the tamron which is quite affordable.

This ia a very searchable topic here and on DPreview.

For your 7D I would look into the Tamron 2.8 or the Canon 17-55 2.8 IS for your all around wide lens.

Remember, on the 7D 17mm is not 17mm. It is 17 x 1.6 due to the crop ratio.

If that is confusing it is time to do some searching!

i was also looking into the canon 15-85mm, which is equal to 24mm..right?

The 15-85mm has considerable distortion on the wide end. It's a 3.5/5.6 so for video mode it will not be great at first then piss you off later when you realize how ofter you have to correct the exposure. Plus it's not cheap.
The 10-22mm Canon is virtually distortion free, but still variable aperture. For the long run I would go for a 17-40mmL f4 as a core wide lens which will give you a lot of room to work with few headaches and at a fare price. There are no perfect lenses, you will need to build up a collection that you like to work with in your budget. I just saw 2 / 17-40mm sell on Ebay yesterday for $550 and $560.
Don't be in a hurry, look around, hang on to your cash, make good decisions and get quality lenses. Better to get one great lens than 3 problem lenses with workarounds.

if there is a fast lense at 28mm f/2.8, iso 100.....that would be equal to a slower lense @ 28mm f/3.5, iso 400, correct?
i mean in the same light conditions it would be very similar, just way less noise with the faster lense right?

Correct, but f/2.8 ISO 100 = f/3.5 ISO 200. closer to one stop. Always less noise with lower ISO as a rule. The faster lens is also better because a 2.8 stopped down to 3.5 will be sharper than a f3.5 lens wide open.
Just saw a Canon 2.8 go on Ebay for $148
