Which NLEs can be used with this?

Hey guys I've been out of the movie making loop for a while now and I'm starting to get back into it now that Edmonton's cold weather has passed :). I've got some quick questions regarding these P2 cards and HD, since I'm so hyped about this camera and plan on seeing if my local film group could buy the HVX and p2 cards for its rental facility :).

1. What PC NLEs are capable of editing HD/24p.

2. Are P2 cards just as easy to transfer footage to the comp as tape?

3. And where's the firewire? Everyone's talkin about USB 2 now, have I really been gone that long?!

4. While I'm at it, how many cards would one carry around, seeing as they seem to hold around 4 mins of footage at max resolution. 10 cards seems reasonable for a short film shoot, but then again I'd better check out the pricing for these things before I go spouting numbers :)

Thanks guys!

Final Cut Pro HD 4 and the new yet to be released version 5 are great. Apple has a partnership with Panasonic and have supported the DVCPRO HD format for a while.

This is the only PC solution for editing DVCPRO HD...as far as I know.

And it's not just a matter of finding an NLE that can edit HD/24p, it's whether or not an NLE supports the DVCPRO HD codec. For example, you can edit 1080 24p in vegas, but you can't use the DVCPRO HD codec with it...which means you can't use the HVX 200 with it.

Thanks guys, looks like I'll have to look into getting a mac now, and those p2 cards are more expensive then I thought. *calls rental facility* :P

Well the HVX isn't out for another 6 months apparently, so I'd wait and see what happens. I think you'll find other NLE's supporting DVCPRO/HD. If not, then I'm joining you on getting a Mac.

Agreed, I'm sure there's R&D work happening already for the NLE world and no one will want to be left out of the loop when this thing hits the market.
