Which Monitor Works with GH2?

I'm in the process of returning my second Lilliput monitor. In both cases the problem was the "TV Output in Progress" messaged on my GH2 lcd preventing me from watching playback on the monitor. Others have said they haven't had this problem which leads me to believe it's a setting in the camera. No one seems to know what setting that is. I've called up Lilliput and they're calling their techs in China for an answer.

Incidentally, in another thread someone mentioned this company -- but how do you place an order with them?

I just had one of their monitors delivered. You need to email or phone to obtain a quote. They'll email you a pro forma invoice. I paid Paypal (+4%) and the goods arrived BC five days later. Here's my contact at Neway: cole@newayil.com

How do you like it so far?

Any problem with playback?

I'm still waiting for the hdmi cable to be delivered. i'll post a review once it gets here.

So far all I can report is that the monitor was well packaged, came with soft case, sun shield, charger, two battery plates and hot shoe bracket and seems well made. Instructions are scant, which I understand is the norm. The default language is Chinese with no instructions on how to change language so navigating through the menus to try to enable English was a process of trial an error. Monitor is light so doesn't significantly add to the weight of my rig. The in-camera LCD on the AF100 is too small for my deteriorating eyesight so the 7" screen size on the Neway is great and 1080 x 800 resolution seems nicely sharp. Menus are logical and clear.

More later.

More on the Neway . . .

Happily, the colour rendering looks very accurate - just as well as there is no capability to calibrate the monitor with the camera. The 1280 x 800 resolution is tack sharp.

Feature I'll likely use most on the monitor is focus peaking. its way better on the 7" screen than the camera's 3.5". I'll be less likely to use false colour and the clip guides. The WFM and zebras on the camera are way better for exposure. Playback function works well on the big screen.

I'm not sure of the purpose of the Windows function or the Pixel to Pixel. I'll also have to research the purpose of the User Defined Image Ratio OSD.

There are knobs to adjust Brightness, Contrast, Chroma and Tint but they don't seem to do anything. They are adjustable only through the menus. I can't see a menu function that switches control over to the knobs. Maybe it's me and I'm missing something obvious. I've emailed Neway to ask about this.

The monitor arrived without a screen protector so I'll need to source some. The sunscreen attaches with Velcro but is light tight and conveniently folds flat. There is no branding on the monitor.

I don't like the shoe mount and will investigate other options for attachment, maybe an articulating arm hung off the rails. I was surprised that a 12" cable was too short to connect the monitor to the Af100 when using the shoe mount. I didn't measure and assumed it would be plenty long.

Initial impressions are very positive for a budget monitor. It should make using my gear more fun and improve the quality of my work.

So, you finally got your hdmi capable and you're loving it.

Question, since you have a GH3, why did you opt for a field monitor instead of a tablet and camera controller app?

I like the idea but I have a AF100, not a GH3. Id run with that configuration if the AF100 had that capability, which i doubt. I'm also a Mac user and I don't believe there is yet an IOS app that can do this. Seems to be Android.

Asked if the monitor was tested with the GH2 and they sent me this answer:

I noted previously the knobs for contrast, tint, etc didn't appear to work. They do. The manual doesnt mention this but first they need to be pushed in to activate them.
