Which manual lenses for 5D..?

Sorry for this question, i'm sure it's probably been done to death, but i couldn't find the answer... I've got a set of Canon FD primes which i understand don't work on the 5d without an adapter with a small lens inside.

Is there a quality FD to EF adapter anyone can recommend..?

What cheap, in abundance manual lenses (not infinity spinning) do people use with the 5d..? Zeiss ZE's are a bit out of my price range...

Loads of old M42 lemses will fit with an adaptor, try www.srb-griturn.com for EOS adaptors. Other than that old manual Nikons are quite popular, and mostly will fit. You couls also try Olympus Zuiko and Minolta MD lenses.

In general, yes. The flange-focal distance of the EOS mount is 44mm, that of the Nikon F is IIRC 46.5mm. So apart from any unusual lenses with protruding rear elements they should work ok.

Minolta lenses don't work. M42, Pentax K, Olympus OM, and Nikon (all SLR mounts) all work. I've adapted lenses from all of those mounts.

Even the highest-quality FD to EF adapter will significantly degrade the image at wider apertures.

I would go with AI or AIS, keep it old and simple. Check out Ffordes, MrCad and Mifsuds at first call.
And I think Minolta MD lenses fit, since some here have raved about using the 58 f/1.2 on their 5DII and 7D cams, also there is an adapter for them.

Series E are generally pretty crap. AI are great, ais mostly have the same optics as ai but they have shorter focus throws. The minolta's need a bit of modification. Pentax super takumars are the best bang for buck.

Also are 'Nikon Lens Series E' any good...?

No, the Series E lenses are not bad. Their optical formulas are the same as, or extremely comparable to, the Nikkor AI and AI-S lenses. The Series E lenses have been denigrated for their build quality, which would seem suspect given the heavy use of plastic in the barrel. But this is unfair, because almost all modern autofocus lenses also use a lot of plastic, even the most expensive ones.

Trust me, Minoltas don't work. The only way to use them on Canon EOS cameras is to remove the mount and hack an EF mount on the them. It's easier for some Minolta lenses than it is for others. But the same procedure could also be done to fit FD lenses. Only a second of Googling work will prove this.

FYI There are some lenses that won't fit onto a canon5d with adapter. I have 24mm f2.8 AI lens with a black flange that sits higher than most. I therefore it hits the mirror on the canon and is useless. Serial number is 488137, as I recall it built in the early 70's. But on my Nikon D200 and F4, not problems.

Take a dremel to it :cheesy:
