Which is your favorite lens for interviews?

I shot a doc awhile ago on the 7D that the director wanted to use a zoom for all interviews so we could keep the subject talking. Used a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 that actually did a great job...I believe I was shooting around f4 on everything. Makes me wish I kept that lens, but the FS100 kit zoom is great if you have enough light anyway.

I like the Vivitar 28-90 f2.8-3.5. Fast enough to throw the
background out, has the 'classic' 35, 50, 85 focal
lengths and ability to change framing like people
on here have said. Best of all it's only about $60
(FD mount)

I've started shooting intv's on primes, which scares producers crapless, but they like the results so much I find it puts them back where I like them best- out from behind the camera, admitting they don't know what is going on, just do that voodoo mode. when they get out of line I threaten them with that old zoom look. ;)

I think kit lens would be great if it wasn't so damn slow!!!:Drogar-Mad(DBG):
David,..am i wrong or your lens (Cooke 20-100) have same price of the FS-100?!

Well yes, but I try to invest in glass that will last a lifetime. Cameras seem to have around a 3 year lifespan.

At any rate there is something about the Cooke look when shooting people that is so tasty.

Yes on Cooke. I had a 9-50 with and XTR I ran for years. I miss that lens, so sharp, fast and great looking. I quoted S4s on a recent job that didnt fly- hoping to try some out soon.

good point David,i my self been using B4 mount lens for years with different cameras that i don't use (and have) anymore, but now i have the FS-100 and for me it's a new begining with these kind of lens...cheers

+1 on the Canon FD 50mm 1.4

In fact all of the FD primes give you some interesting and inexpensive choices.

Not that I would use it for an interview, but I picked up a 135mm 2.5 and it's a pretty cool lens. Really heavy as well...

I just bought these bad boys from the marketplace, plus an FD adapter from Amazon. Good times. I am really digging the Tokina 28mm.

I have a shoot tomorrow, can't wait to use them in a practical environment.
