GH2 which is better?

Is it better to crop 1:1 and have the noise or shoot regular and and crop it in FCPX?

With ETC on or off, you still get the same 1920 a 1080 image, so it's kind of a moot question.

the in camera 1:1 crop mode will give you a 1080p video stream. shooting normally and cropping in post will give you whatever size you crop it down to, you can upres it back to 1080p but then your losing quality, i prefer some noise than loss of quality.

and the noise can be reduced a little with neat video or magic bullet denoiser.

if your final export is only 720p cropping 1080p footage in post is better.

All else equal use 1:1, so that the codec's bandwidth is being used on the final image, rather than most of it being used to encode information that will be discarded during the crop.

The in-camera 1:1 mode can give you either a 1080 or 720 image - they are alternative settings.
